Position Summary

JMT is looking for a technical writer/editor to take on the challenge of creating, reviewing, and editing content related to the company's projects to be used in pursuing future contracts. This role involves working with a team of skilled marketing professionals and technical staff from various professional disciplines. The technical writer/editor is responsible for producing and transforming complex and technical project content into a format that is comprehensible and suitable for the target audience. They write project summaries, employee profiles, and compelling copy for the services that the company offers and the competitive advantages that the company has in the markets it serves. The technical writer/editor ensures that written content meets Federal Section 508 and WCAG criteria for accessibility and is capable of modifying technical content for clarity and style without altering meaning. They also edit and proofread content to ensure high quality of clarity, grammar, and accuracy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Produce and transform complex and technical engineering project content into a format that is comprehensible and suitable for the target audience

  • Write project summaries, based on oral interviews of technical staff and managers

  • Write employee profiles, including introductory paragraphs and description of work done on projects

  • Write compelling copy for services that our firm offers and the competitive advantages that our firm has in the markets we serve

  • Ensure written content meets Federal Section 508 and WCAG criteria for accessibility

  • Ability to modify technical content for clarity and style without altering meaning

  • Edit and proofread content to ensure high quality of clarity, grammar, and accuracy

Required Skills

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical communication, English, journalism, engineering, or a related field, with a strong portfolio of writing samples.

  • at least 2 years of technical writing experience

  • Must be able to provide examples of capabilities as they pertain to the responsibilities listed in this position description.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Federal Section 508 and WCAG guidelines for accessible content

  • Familiarity with the architecture/engineering/construction industry

  • Thorough knowledge of commonly used style guides

  • Working knowledge of best practices for remediating PDFs, Office365 documents, and web content compliant with Federal Section 508 and WCAG guidelines.

Working Conditions

Work is performed on a hybrid schedule – a combination of office and remote work. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
