SUMMARY: Information security analysts design, implement, and monitor security systems to protect the company and our computer networks from cyber-attacks, and help set and maintain security standards.

The security analyst's responsibilities include helping to secure our online and on-premises infrastructure, filtering out suspicious activity, and finding and mitigating security risks before security incidents can occur. You will work inter-departmentally to identify and correct flaws in our security systems while monitoring security tooling for signs of possible events leading to incidents.

Security Analyst Responsibilities:

  • Participating in efforts to counter security incidents and anticipating and reducing the likelihood of future security alerts, incidents, and disasters.

  • Defining, planning, implementing, maintaining, and upgrading security measures, policies, and controls.

  • Writing reports and providing insights on the efficacy of the current security policies, incident responses, disaster recovery plans, and other security-related information.

  • Assisting with the creation of updates and training programs to secure the network and train the employees.

  • Keeping the security systems up to date.

  • Monitoring security access and maintaining the relevant data.

  • Conducting vulnerability testing and risk analyses to assess security and performing internal and external security audits.

  • Analyzing security incidents to identify the cause and to update incidence responses and disaster recovery plans.

  • Verifying and coordinating security plans and conducting security assessments with outside vendors.

  • Creating procedures for IT employees and training them in security awareness.

  • Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.

Security Analyst Essential Duties:

  • Monitor network activity.

  • Manage security incidents- investigate and respond.

  • Manage and monitor security systems.

  • Proactively assesses potential items of risk and opportunities of vulnerability in the network.

  • Support day-to-day administration of various firewalls.

  • Perform network scanning.

  • Perform compliance activities.

  • Create and modify documentation.

  • Responsible for all three pillars of cybersecurity: Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, programming, or 1-3 years' experience in the field or relatable field.

  • Advanced training certifications may be advantageous.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, and teaching skills.

  • Good anticipation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to remain current on the latest technology and best practices in information security.

  • Technical Knowledge: Microsoft Active Directory, UNIX, Linux, Encryption, Digital Certificates, SSL, VPN, IPSec, TCP/IP, DNS and web security architecture, Nmap, Rapid7, Splunk, and others are a plus.

  • To be a successful security analyst, you should have a sound working knowledge of cybersecurity, including intrusion prevention, incidence response, and ethical hacking. You should be detail oriented with strong analytical skills and have good communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
