This is a great opportunity to join our fast paced state of the art microbiology food testing laboratory in Wolverhampton. The purpose of this role is to ensure delivery of service in relevant section of the laboratory in line with the accreditation standard and expectation of key accounts and efficient day-to-day operation
This is a full time permanent role working 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday 2pm to 10pm. Training shift hours will be Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm for the first few weeks.
Main duties to include:
To train, motivate and monitor junior members of the team. To be responsible for the analytical records and delegate duties as required.
Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, with worksheets are kept in an orderly manner.
Supervision of staff to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory.
To ensure that all equipment is kept within recommended limits for calibration and maintenance in order to adhere to quality targets.
Recruitment of new staff and ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard.
Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team.
Lead site induction and Health and Safety induction for new starters.
Act as a deputy to the Laboratory Manager/Laboratory Coordinator and Training Manager/ Training Coordinator.
Ensure that production work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
Advise Laboratory Manager without delay of any problems affecting operations in relevant area of the laboratory.
A flexible approach to work will be required to help assist other departments as and when required.
Responsible for maintaining some stock inventory in relevant areas of the laboratory.
Read and comply with company rules, procedures, agreements and any notices displayed by the Company.
Degree or equivalent in science.
Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc.
Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
Good organisational and technical problem-solving skills.
Capable of working well under pressure.
Ability to motivate a team at times of fluctuating workloads.
Willing to take on responsibility.
Strong people management skills.
Strong management skills of for performance/absence management.
