Job Summary: The hospital prep cooks are typically responsible for the preparation of foods according to standardized recipes and production methods. Ensures high quality using safe, sanitary food handling techniques during preparation service and storage. Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Food Safety and Hygiene: Must maintain clean food stations to ensure food safety standards. Will work with food safety to monitor expiration dates and inventory.
  • Food Preparation: Responsible for preparing ingredients. May include chopping ingredients, making sauces, or portioning ingredients into uniform serving sizes.
  • Time Management: Must prep food in a consistent and timely fashion.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Will be expected to communicate effectively with team members, managers, and others.
  • Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties.
  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
  • Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
  • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
  • Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
  • Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash etc.
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Consistent with food preparations.
  • Work well under pressure and maintain a professional friendly attitude.
  • Must be able to work shift.
  • Attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
  • Able to work independently and have organizational skills.
  • Ensure safe food handling techniques are used.
  • Monitor food and equipment to maintain proper temperature.
  • High School or Equivalent.
  • Technical - Culinary preferred.
