The Opportunity
The CAD Technologist will work closely with engineers in the preparation of commercial bulk material handling machinery 3D models, general assemblies and fabrication drawings. The role will require experience and solid knowledge of SolidWorks. The successful candidate will be an active and participating member of the engineering team supporting occasionally the fabrication team. Design work include not only commercial bulk material handling machinery but also structures and storage used in the material handling process and an even broader range of related design assignments depending on candidate aptitude and abilities.
Responsibilities
Work independently within established design and manufacturing procedures, equipment portfolios and templates to develop project specific equipment designs or configurations meeting customer and manufacturing requirements.
Create 3D equipment models based on collaboration with Application Engineer using SolidWorks
Responsible to ensure 3D models and drawings are reviewed by Application Engineer
Create accurate approval drawings, assemblies, sub-assemblies and part drawings using SolidWorks
Work with Application Engineer to resolve any questions or incomplete details about equipment designs
Interpret blueprints, photos, and sketches.
Resolve design related questions that arise with production
Develop and maintains manufactured part numbers in CAD programs
Ensure that all work assigned is completed timely and accurately
Travel to jobsites or AGI manufacturing centers when necessary
Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Diploma in Manufacturing CAD, Engineering /Design Technology or equivalent demonstrable experience
1+ years of experience in 3D modeling and preparing drawings in SolidWorks is essential
1+ years of mechanical design and sheet metal design experience preferred
Background using complex file systems, Engineering Product Data Management (EPDM) systems, and other product development systems would be considered an asset
Ability to read drawings
Excellent communicator, both verbal and written
Highly detail oriented and organized
Exceptional time management skills with the ability to work in complex environment often driven by project deadlines
Exercises good judgment, initiative, and a strong work ethic
Demonstrates strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Ability to own personal development and gain understanding of the equipment we design, design/manufacturing technologies, and industry norms specific to the Agricultural, Feed and Food sectors.
Experience using SolidWorks is essential
Experience using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD 2D, Tekla, Revit/Advance Steel is considered an asset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Note that selected candidates will be requested to complete a basic design exercise using SolidWorks.
