Town Of Windsor Utility Technician I in Windsor, Colorado

Hiring Range: $20.69 - $22.51 per hour

This position may be part of the Town of Windsor Snow Team and therefore is eligible for additional compensation through our Snow Pay Incentive Program.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 to 3:30 and occasionally on weekends; on-call as scheduled

NATURE OF WORK The Utility Technician I is the entry-level position in the Utility Technician professional series. As a member of the Public Works team, individuals in this position perform skilled and semi-skilled task assignments necessary to the operation and maintenance of the Town of Windsor Utility System in the area of water distribution and transportation systems; and wastewater and storm-water collection systems and, when necessary, provide service assistance to other department/divisions they as may be directed. Operates and maintains equipment necessary to achieve these service objectives. Is assigned to On-Call duties on a 24-hour per day basis according to a schedule of rotational assignments developed by the Division Supervisor or the Public Works Superintendent for weekly service.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Individuals work under the direct supervision of the Public Works - Utility Supervisor to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The individual in the Utility Technician I role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation, and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

Performs installation of Utility system pipelines (i.e. wastewater collection, water distribution), water service renewals, service turn on/offs, repair of valves, pipeline connections, fire hydrants, repair of utility street cuts, and construction duties necessary to provide for and maintain utilities services for the Department. Operates and maintains equipment necessary to carry out the duties and functions assigned to this position, including but not limited to dump trucks, loader/backhoe, front end loaders, air compressors, jackhammers, compactors, jet/vac. Truck, high-pressure jet rodders, flexible steel rodders, pipe locate equipment, and power tools. Performs designated service and preventive maintenance to utility systems such as sanitary sewer lift station pumps, water pump stations, pressure and gravity-flow pipelines, pressure reducing valves (PRV), fire hydrants, water valves, meters, manholes, emergency generators, and monitoring, control, and telemetry systems. Constructs and performs maintenance/repair to water distribution and sanitary sewer and storm-water collection systems that include line rodding and cleanout, tree root extraction, catch basin cleaning and placement, flushing water mains, exercising valves, repair, and installation of pipelines as directed. Assist with all routine and compliance samples required by the State Health Department and the EPA. Responds to citizen inquiries, answers citizens' questions, responds to their complaints, and notifies citizens of impending work in a timely and professional manner. Assists with the coordination of outside contractors engaged in performing maintenance and repair work for the city. Completes monthly meter reading for utility billing. Assists with the water disconnects for non-payment of utility accounts. Assumes operator "On-Call uty" as assigned. Assists in preparing complete and definitive reports in operational logs and ledgers and shares in staff discussions and evaluations of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems of the department. Observes all safety practices and policies of the town in the discharge of assigned duties and participates in Safety Committee activities. Performs preventive and repair maintenance on equipment as assigned. Performs janitorial duties necessary to systems operation and maintenance. Performs utility locates for water, sewer, storm sewer, town-owned electrical lines, and fiber optic systems while closely following UNCC requirements. Completes daily work orders.

OTHER DUTIES Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following: The Utility Technician l position is part of the snow removal program which includes scheduled on-call responsibilities typically during the months of October to May. Utility Technicians are required to review and acknowledge the Snow Guidelines annually. The Utility Technician I position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check. Performs other related duties as may be assigned or required. Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town. Assists other town departments/divisions, serves on employee committees and project teams, and performs other work as necessary.
