Traffic Engineering
Assists with traffic data collection (speeds, traffic volume counts, turning movements, pedestrian volume counts, classification counts).
Collect traffic asset information (signs, pavement markings, signals, lighting, ITS) using GPS equipment.
Evaluate pavement markings (access longevity, useful life, replacement cycle).
Assist with sign inspection on construction projects.
Sign Maintenance
Installs, repairs and removes permanent signs and messages.
Installs emergency and temporary signing on detours, construction projects and other emergency projects.
Stake sign locations and conduct Gopher One Call utility locate requests.
Determines proper traffic control layout and performs traffic control.
Evaluate in-place signing (pre-plan analysis of placement and remaining sign life, inspect questionable signs, inventory updates).
Respond to utility locate requests for traffic assets (signals, lights, ITS).
Snow & Ice
- Maintains roadways for snow and ice control removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow; removes snow from rights of way or yards; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slipper conditions; removes frozen ice and material from culverts; prepares and inspects winter equipment – maintains snowplow.
Minimum Qualifications
A Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction. Must obtain Class A within 6 months.
The level of experience to perform this job at the TG level can be achieved with:
One year of experience performing any of the following:sign installation and maintenance, roadway and roadside maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, operating heavy equipment, farm experience, snow plow operations, road construction, etc.;
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist
Physical Requirements
Pre-Employment Physical Exam: A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into specific job classifications will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam. The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.
