NC STATE PORTS AUTH. Terminal Operations Planner in Wilmington, North Carolina
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Terminal Operation Planners (TOP) plan and coordinate all job allocations and directions throughout the container terminal through multiple platforms. The position works closely with internal and external stakeholders to effectively allocate terminal space, labor, and best production practices. TOPs operate around the clock to support all operational needs and are required to operate in a high pace, performance driven role under demanding pressure.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Manage yard operations by assigning tasks to EO3s and YOTs. Collaborate with all teams within the department to create work instructions for gate, vessel, and rail operations in the Terminal Operating System. Coordinate with the General Cargo team regarding Container Freight Station movements. Provide accurate empty stack locations for Stevedores to load vessel(s). Work with EO3 Foreman and EO3s to ensure accurate yard inventory and manage housekeeping tasks. Update the empty inventory directory through MS SharePoint in collaboration with other TOPs. Report any issues with the Terminal Operating System to the Operations Supervisor. Use the Terminal Operating System (TOS) to accurately assign allocations prior to starting vessel operations. Collaborate with fellow Terminal Operations Planners (TOPs) to reduce the occurrence of Failed to Decks (FLDs). Monitor and communicate with customers, operational partners, and team members via email, phone, and two-way radio. Work together with operational partners to maintain inventory of Out of Service (OOS) reefer units. Coordinate with EO3 Foreman and EO3s to record and designate yard locations for vessel operations. Assist EO3s during vessel operations by providing tablets troubleshooting support, allocations support, etc. Perform any other assigned duties by management. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Highschool diploma or equivalent is required with a related associate or bachelors degree preferred. Experience in supply chain logistics software programs preferred. Two plus years experience in the transportation industry is preferred. Ability to identify issues and develop ways to operationally work around problems if issues cannot be resolved immediately is required. Must have the ability to multitask, while maintaining a strong attention to detail Excellent communication and handwritten skills are required. Must have experience working with computer applications including Microsoft Excel. Must be customer service oriented and follow all safety rules and requirements Must have a valid drivers license and meet TWIC security requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT: Administrative role in a hybrid indoor/outdoor environment. Primarily office face but not limited to frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, and hot and cold seasonal weather. Must be able to climb on and off equipment and lift up to 25 pounds. Must follow all safety rules and requirements, operate equipment in a safe manner, and be physically capable to perform all assigned tasks. Overtime is required, when necessary.
