Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The Digital Engineering Supervisor will lead the deployment of LEAN and Manufacturing 4.0 methodologies in the plant to improve the efficiency of product flow, people flow, and information flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead team of engineers and technicians that support Lean and Manufacturing 4.0 initiatives

  • Reduce inefficiency and non value-added tasks to maximize capacity and minimize cost

  • Champion Lean and M4.0 culture in the plant through training, culture development, tool implementation and accountability

  • Collaborate with division and corporate LEAN and M4.0 teams to align engineering objectives with business goals

  • Drive the implementation of manufacturing 4.0 initiatives within the organization.

  • Develop and complete LEAN project portfolio linked to overall plant plan

  • Own VSM portfolio and future vision

  • Track, report, and own key LEAN performance metrics and project impacts

  • Own and track GEMBA engagement in the plant

  • Lead events to identify and implement LEAN changes in the plant (VSM, Kanban, SMED)

  • Support evaluation and design of new products and processes to ensure LEAN and M4.0 systems are in place

  • Provide coaching to team members to assist with their professional development

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering or similar discipline

  • Effective leadership experience in functional or project role(s)

  • 4+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or engineering

  • Knowledge of LEAN methodologies and processes

  • Advanced skills for data collection and data analysis

  • Project Management experience

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Supervisory skills in coaching technical employees

  • Awareness of product and process data and information systems

  • Proficiency in AI applications and familiarity with 4.0 technologies

  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting

The range for this position is $116,088.00 - $159,621.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
