We are looking for a Controls Engineer who will be responsible for fulfilling project assignments, individually or as part of a project team. Assignments may include involvement in multiple projects simultaneously. The individual will provide engineering detail, develop technical documentation and specifications, write PLC and HMI application software, configure AC/DC drive equipment, develop system test plan documents, simulation code, and perform system testing. Coordination with project management, technical leads, and/or end customers to commission systems is also required.
Responsibilities
Provide engineering detail to and work with internal drafting resources to develop drawings.
Develop technical documentation and specifications.
Write PLC and HMI application software.
Configure AC/DC drive equipment.
Develop system test plan documents, simulation code, and perform system testing.
Coordinate with project management, technical leads, and/or end customers to commission systems.
Program, troubleshoot, and commission for the first 80% of a project.
Work on 2-3 projects simultaneously.
Collaborate with project managers and design engineers during the beginning of the project life cycle.
Complete Factory Acceptance Test with customers at IMS where all tests and simulations are performed.
Disassemble and ship machinery to the customer site.
Help commission equipment and start-up at the customer site.
Essential Skills
Heavy Industrial Automation Experience
Ability to program from scratch (preferably Allen Bradley but open to Siemens)
Experience with Siemens PLC
Experience with AC/DC motor control
Knowledge of electrical and automation systems
Technical writing skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel, and Visio
Communication skills both written and verbal
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Engineering degree or equivalent experience in industrial automation
Aptitude in programming/configuring PLC’s (Allen Bradley, Siemens, and GE), drives (Siemens, ABB, and Allen Bradley), and/or HMI packages
Experience in metals processing
Willingness and desire to participate in ongoing training to maintain technical competency in automation products, software, and complementary areas
Work Environment
This role involves approximately 25% travel with all expenses 100% covered. When not traveling, this will be an in-office career at a brand-new recently built facility. The work facility includes an office for this individual, as well as building amenities such as a gym, locker room, and fully functional kitchen.
