Specific Responsibilities:
This is aNursing Program Specialistposition performing independent, countywide school health nursing work for the School Health Program. Work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor to conduct school health screenings in Palm Beach County Schools required by Florida Statute 381.0056 and per Florida Administrative Code, 64F-6.003. Independently organizes, implements and conducts the nursing component of the program. Assist others in ensuring duties are performed in accordance with applicable rules, statutes and policies. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions.
This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Confidential data set(s): School Medical Records, Clinical, and Social Security Data. This position may view, update or release information, school nursing/medical records, clinical information and social security data. This position has access to the FL Shots System to review, update and/or enter immunizations. System access also includes Health Management System (HMS) for Employee Activity Report (EARs) for data entry, the School District’s student information system and student Electronic Health Records (EHR) for documentation.
Performs referral and follow-up of suspected or confirmed health problems per section 381.0056 (4) (a) (11), Florida Statutes and following set protocols. Tracks progress of referrals and responsible for completion of health screening reports. Assist charter schools with case management for screening referrals as requested and maintains appropriate documentation.
Performs vision, hearing, height and weight measurements (BMI), and scoliosis screenings according to protocols/guidelines and records them appropriately. Retests all failures. Completes appropriate forms to assure referrals follow program guidelines. Works with school staff to ensure timely scheduling, completion, and reporting of all charter school mandated grade level health screenings to meet Department of Health deadlines. Maintains accurate records of all testing and makes information available to appropriate school personnel for recording and referral. Maintains equipment in good working order. Immediately notifies supervisor of faulty equipment.
Provide nursing services in Charter Schools as needed. Services to include assessment, implementation of Individualized Health Care Plan, student-specific training to staff.
Participates in in-service, trainings, and orientation programs. Participates in regular meetings with staff members to exchange information and participate in School Health planning. Attends meetings as requested by school administration and provides nursing knowledge as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Licensure/registration/certification requirements:
This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 64B9 Florida Administrative Code.
Other job-related requirements for this position:
Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
A Valid Driver’s License.
Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
This position may require physical strength, agility, and ability to function under stressful situations.
Maintain current CPR/AED certification through nationally recognized certifying agency (inclusive of return demonstration)
Working hours: (A) Four days per work week, 8:00AM to4:30 PM(30-minute lunch) (B) Total hours in workweek32

Hours may need to conform to school hours
(D) Variation in scheduled hours upon supervisor approval.
Required to work on the FDOH State Holiday (Veteran’s Day) when the students are in session.
This position will not work a total of 10 weeks during the school year when students are not in session (8 weeks starting in June and return in August, 2 weeks during school winter break schedule).
