REPORTS TO: High School Principal JOB GOALS: To work with the building principal to carry out the school’s academic, behavior and instructional programs. To understand and respond to challenges presented by a diverse student population. To provide proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support students’ academic, personal, and social success. To work collaboratively with the principal, counselors, nurse, staff, students, and parents to foster a positive school climate. The assistant principal assumes the administrative leadership of the school in the absence of the principal. MAJOR DUTIES & PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES:The items below are intended to describe various types of work that may be performed. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not prohibit them if the work is similar, related, or logical task for the position.In coordination with the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal:
Coordinates, facilitates, and implements attendance intervention steps, including but not limited to holding attendance conferences, making home visits, and maintaining accurate records. Contacts students and parents to discuss attendance issues.
Serves as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept.
Participates in or leads development of academic and behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies including restorative justice practices. Maintains accurate records.
Supports progressive education ideals and practices in conjunction with 21stCentury learning principles.
Maintains a public relations program in the community which will foster understanding and support of the high school programs.
Ensures effective community – staff – student relations by promoting communication and participation, by identifying needs and planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the school-community relations activities in a manner which is visible to the public. Promotes parental and community involvement in school and District activities.
Assures the efficient, effective operation of the school by developing and administering records and reporting requirements, interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations for the effective day-to-day and long-term operations.
Assists principal in recruitment, observation, and evaluation of certified and classified staff when applicable.
Ensures the effective implementation of the District’s strategic plan and understands the role of data towards achieving learning goals and objectives.
Assists principal/faculty in updating staff/student handbooks ensuring implementation.
Shares responsibilities of organizing and supervising all major events and programs with other district leaders.
Assists in monitoring, inspection, and supervision of school facilities.
Assists in the planning and implementation of the school’s emergency preparedness plans.
Ensures that all State and Federal laws, negotiating contracts, Board policy and District administrative and school regulations are adhered to by students, staff, parents, and the community; by our diverse community, interpreting and implementing laws, policies and rules to all involved.
Attends administrative and Board of Education meetings as required. Attends and participates in various leadership team meetings as assigned.
Serves as the principal in the absence of the regular principal.
Assumes other duties as assigned.

The employee shall possess personal computing skills with the following type of software; web browsers, word processing, spreadsheet, and student database systems. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a building setting with students, works in outdoor weather conditions, and is subject to noises associated with both an educational environment and other settings such as gymnasium, lunchroom, and hallways. Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
