Job Description
The Research Technician - Gnotobiotics will oversee isolators, change cages on specialized gnotobiotic ventilated racks, and coordinate space to meet demands of all PI staff. This role involves performing husbandry tasks, submitting all confirmation testing to ensure isolators are clean, and providing technician research support to investigators. The technician will oversee breeding in breeding isolators, maintain records, and communicate with PI staff regarding colony status. Additionally, the technician will provide oversight to students assigned to the area and coordinate work for full-time technicians. A flexible schedule is required to meet investigators' requests, including possible weekend work. The technician will provide coverage to all centralized animal facilities on campus and handle special projects assigned by the Assistant Director.

A.S. or B.S. in Animal Science or related field REQUIRED
At least 3 years of relevant animal care experience (1+ years within research)
Strong knowledge of gnotobiotic work and/or mice breeding
Any certifications preferred but NOT required (LAT, ALAT, LATG, etc.)
Work Environment
This role operates on a standard 1st shift, with potential overtime permitted. Consultants will work onsite within different facilities housing the Laboratory Animal Program (LAP), which consists of four departments supporting various research with different animal species. Tasks will be completed in designated rooms for cage wash, husbandry, and inventory. Animal Care Technicians will work directly with animals, primarily mice or rats, and will be cross-trained in other areas. The team currently supports about 500 animals.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
