The West Chester Area School District has the following position open:

SUMMARY:

The Utility Custodian performs various assigned tasks in a building maintenance, grounds and custodial capacity.   The Utility Custodian must be able to perform general maintenance tasks in multiple disciplines.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Head Custodian
  • Works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff, and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. 12 month (260-262 days) (Group IV)
  2. Salary & Benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent is necessary
  • Current PA driver's license
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years working in the custodial, maintenance field.
  • Must be able to work on ladders and platforms up to 40 feet high.
  • Must have knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC and custodial
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff and outside contacts

     

Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; Ability to work at height's utilizing ladders; Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus;  Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the supervisor.

 

            Tasks: (include but not limited to)

 

  1. Knowledge and use of various hand tools and small power tools, related to general maintenance tasks such as, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, drills, saws etc.

     

  2. Knowledge and use of grounds maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, snow plows and tractors.

     

  3. Knowledge and use of ladders, scaffold, power lifts and other working platforms.

     

     

  4. Perform various general maintenance tasks such as, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, painting, plumbing and equipment maintenance.

     

  5. Perform various grounds maintenance tasks such as, cutting grass, string trimming, hedge trimming, raking, watering, trash removal and snow removal.

     

  6. Perform shipping and receiving tasks such as, loading/ unloading of materials, distributing, moving, and removing of furniture and supplies.

     

  7. Perform general custodial tasks such as, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, disinfecting, auto-scrubbing, trash removal and carpet care.

     

  8. Perform major custodial tasks such as, stripping, waxing, sealing and deep cleaning.

     

  9. Perform set-ups and break-downs of items used for sports, performing arts, and other school functions.

     

  10. When necessary assist with trai ing and communicating with custodial staff.

     

  11. When necessary serve as a substitute Head Custodian.

     

  12. Other duties as assigned.
