Job purpose

As Supply Chain and Stores Specialist, the incumbent works as a member of JM’s Supply Chain team supporting a number of varied yet specialized activities requiring strong collaboration, problem solving, and vendor management skills with a focus on support and resolution of material supply constraints essential for ensuring the manufacturing site’s reliable and timely fulfilment of production orders to customers.

Core duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining consistent supply of needed materials and stores items entering and exiting the plant. These supplies are critical in support of ensuring ongoing operations at the facility and require accurately establishing stock targets, monitoring consumption rates, assessing & recommending revisions as required, and maintaining stores inventory availability of goods for when required.

In addition to maintaining stores supply, active and ongoing coordination between production departments and vendors who provide and service consumable production items is directly adjacent to the core functions of the role.

Additionally, the incumbent should expect to support a wide variety of the miscellaneous and ad-hoc activities required to ensure a strong and effective supply chain is maintained for the site. These duties may include but are not limited to supporting urgent and\or expedited production needs, identifying and support Procurement in the sourcing of new and\or replacement parts, and occasionally engaging with vendors to either fulfil urgent ad-hoc service needs or resolve constraints negatively impacting business operations.

Principal accountabilities

  • Safety:

  • Work in a safe and effective manner that adheres to JM EH&S standards

  • Comply with all EH&S and Ergonomic policies including JM’s Life Saving Policies (LSPs).

  • Supply Chain & Stores:

  • Maintain and ensure sufficient stores inventories at the West Whiteland facility

  • Monitor and adjust material stock targets in fulfilment of typical consumption rates

  • Coordinate with Procurement regarding forecasting of materials and with vendors to schedule and manage incoming\outgoing deliveries

  • Support production requests for scheduling equipment and instrumentation calibrations

  • Identify and initiate master data requests as required for new part setup and management

  • Run, analyse, and act on stores replenishment, running-low, and re-order reports

  • Facilitate and perform bi-annual stores inventory to ensure accuracy of stock

  • Engage with Procurement and vendors, as required, to support custom, expedited, and\or urgent requests

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and simplification of stores and inventory management supporting the future development of ERP systems, focusing on modern approaches to inventory solutions and demand management

  • Operations Support:

  • Manage the servicing, refurbishing, and required return dates of spent production equipment

  • Identify obsolete parts and work with Procurement and Finance to ensure resolution

  • Support site CapEx projects, specifically management of deliveries into/out of site

  • Quality:

  • Coordinate calibration services for quality labs and production equipment and instrumentation

  • Comply with fulfilment of internal, external, supplier, and customer QA & EHS audits

  • Initiate and work with Procurement and Supply Chain to resolve CAR for vendor and outsider processor related issues

  • Facilitate external material sampling

  • Cost:

  • Identify and implement approved continuous improvement opportunities

  • Work with Operations and Procurement to ensure site inventory and supply chain requirements are understood and met

  • People:

  • Work independently and effectively displaying effective ownership of assigned duties

Requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or applicable discipline with over 5 years work experience or High School\Vocational education with over 7 years practical and relevant work experience

  • Good communication skills required to exchange information with team members, operational management and peers in associated processes

  • Excellent computer skills with ability to utilize and learn varied systems. Proficient w/ Microsoft products.

  • Demand and inventory analysis and management (5+ years)

  • Vendor management and problem resolution experience (5+ years)

  • Experience with modern ERP and Procurement systems e.g. SAP, MS Dynamics, Coupa

  • Experience with IBM Mainframe and\or AS400 System
