Summary:

The Feeder Yard Manager is expected to drive, guide and influence day-to-day operational activities for the Metalico Pittsburgh (All American location). Plan and communicate their business vision, growth and diversification to their team and drive the execution of an effective operations program. Direct staff to achieve individual and yard goals and successfully delegate responsibilities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and Supervision -- Coordinate, manage, supervise, and monitor yard production activities. Direct and monitor staff to accomplish production goals and follow established safety procedures.
  • Management Operations Team -- Actively participate in the organization's management collaborating with the Yard Manager and Buyers, in developing, formulating, planning and executing long and short term , programs and objectives.
  • Sales - Meets routinely with the Sales team to forecast work requirements. Have daily continuous interaction with the sales team.
  • Human Resources - Work with HR to hire, train, develop and evaluate staff. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policies and handbook. Ensures staffing is maintained at a sufficient level to meet production goals while controlling direct labor costs without undue reliance on overtime. Ensures compliance with current federal, state, and local regulations. Consult with Human Resource as appropriate.
  • Financial - Review and approve bills for payment for work incurred. Utilize financial data to improve profitability. Participate with the management team in the preparation and control of operational budgets. Control inventory. Plan effective strategies for the financial well-being of the company.
  • Ensures that Quality, Environmental, and Safety processes meet all Metalico and Governmental compliance standards.
  • Maintain close communication with maintenance manager to identify equipment conditions and repairs to assist in prioritizing the order of importance.
  • Maintain good business contacts and favorable relations with current customers (scrap dealers, peddlers, and other suppliers).
  • Gather and maintain appropriate information about the local market for raw material concerning cost trends, availability of supply, and competitor information.
  • Employee may be assigned to special projects or may be required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.

     

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED, BS degree preferred in Business or related discipline.

A minimum of three (3) years of management experience.

Up to 3 years of experience in a scrap business or 10 years in a related field

Small to heavy equipment operation (forklifts, material handlers, excavators, loaders, etc.)

Ability to identify, grade, and determine quality non-ferrous metals is required.

Ability to identify, grade, and determine quality ferrous metals is preferred.
