Axiom Space Senior Engineer, Water Recovery in Webster, Texas

SUMMARY: Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Senior Water Recovery Engineer who will primarily be responsible for designing, developing, and testing hardware for the collection, storage, processing, and distribution of human body waste, gray water, and potable water aboard Axiom Station. This position reports to the ECLSS Water Recovery Manager . This role is onsite and will be based at our Space Station Development Facility (SSDF).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work on a collaborative team developing Axiom’s Water Accumulation and Treatment Assembly (WATA) for low Earth orbit and beyond.

  • Collaborate on a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop and manage requirements for WATA hardware.

  • Design and develop test rigs for testing WATA hardware with agility.

  • Plan and perform testing of WATA components and integrated assemblies with organizational support.

  • Ensure designs satisfy requirements and demonstrate performance in a thorough verification and validation program.

  • Analyze system performance and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Develop knowledge and expertise to serve as a department Subject Matter Expert (SME), including learning new tasks to gain deeper knowledge and insight.

  • Train and develop the skills of younger and less experienced engineers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field required.

  • 5+ years’ experience in microgravity life support engineering, fluid systems engineering, toilet/urinal/commode design, or similar role required. A combined equivalent of education and experience may also be considered.

  • Experience with flight hardware design, testing, or certification preferred.

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
