Job Description

The Opportunity

The delivery of technology solutions plays a critical role in Manulife’s business strategies, requiring quick, reliable, and secure delivery while demonstrating effective risk management to customers, shareholders, and regulators. As part of the first line of defense, the Global Technology Governance & Control (G&C) function collaborates across segments, technology, and risk management teams globally to identify technology risks and operationalize the risk strategy. G&C works with leadership to establish the risk culture, supports IT in identifying and mitigating risks, and provides an objective view of key risks to inform business decisions.

The successfully candidate will lead/participate in projects to interpret incoming risks, issues, policies, standards, and designs actions to address requirements. The candidate will work with partners in segments to design and document key controls and expected procedures for assigned control areas, as well as monitor ongoing performance and alignment plans.

Work arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days for Home

How You’ll Succeed:

Partnering with process owners and risk teams to design and manage the Governance and Control portfolio, with the aim of organizing and enhancing control measures across the enterprise:

  • Creating a structured process for capturing, evaluating, and prioritizing new initiatives or projects related to governance and control.

  • Defining a transparent method for prioritizing new work based on established criteria such as risk impact, regulatory requirements, resource availability, and strategic alignment.

  • Developing procedures to assess the resource and capacity implications of new activities related to governance and control.

  • Creating and maintaining a comprehensive roadmap to outline the status and progression of various initiatives within the governance and control portfolio.

  • Proactively engaging and collaborating with key partners and stakeholders involved in risk management, compliance, and governance functions to ensure effective integration with broader risk and compliance strategies.

Design, organize, and enhance risk management practices across the enterprise:

  • Design and implement processes to monitor key controls' performance, including creating KPIs and establishing regular review processes.

  • Proactively address identified deficiencies in control measures and prepare for internal and external audits.

  • Track progress and execute action plans to mitigate key risks, modifying plans as needed based on ongoing assessments.

  • Provide status reporting and briefings to senior management to keep them informed and engaged in risk management efforts.

  • Maintain documentation related to risks and controls, including risk assessments, control frameworks, audit findings, and action plans.

  • Foster relationships across the three lines of defense to develop integrated strategies for managing key risks.

  • Offer expertise and advisory support on company-wide initiatives related to technology, risk management, business processes, and control frameworks.

  • Has the following:

  • University degree in engineering, computer science, business administration, or related degree

  • Knowledge of risk & control management methodologies and frameworks

  • Prefer but not required: a recognized auditing (CIA, CISA), security (CISSP), accounting designation (CPA), and/or project management (PMP) designation

  • Preferred 7-10 years of related technology risk, audit, or information security experience

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Salary range is expected to be between

$103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
