National Gallery of Art Gallery Support Specialist (Program Assistant) in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary The primary purpose of the Gallery Support Specialist is to serve as a dynamic and integral member of the Pre-Professional Programs team within the Department of Gallery and Studio Learning and the Division of Learning and Engagement at the National Gallery of Art. This position plays a critical role in supporting the coordination and execution of educational initiatives for teens, interns, and other young learners. Responsibilities As the Gallery Support Specialist you will: Assist in the planning and execution of pre-professional program activities, ensuring effective coordination and impactful experiences. Provide administrative support for program logistics, communication with participants, marketing, evaluation, and efficient resource management. Keep accurate records and assist with preparing reports related to program activities. Engage directly with teens, interns, and young learners, applying experience in youth mentorship, art making, teaching, discussion facilitation, or similar roles and experiences. Contribute to the creative and artistic elements of programs, leveraging any personal background in art-making or creative practices. Work closely with team members, contributing to meetings, supporting collective goals, serving on committees or cross-departmental projects. Collaborate on projects across all pre-professional programs, demonstrating flexibility and using various skills. Support wider team efforts in marketing, outreach, and program evaluation. Uses various software and systems for program administration, database management, and digital communication. Work closely with team members, contributing to meetings and supporting collective goals. Bring creative ideas to program development and problem-solving. Engage and actively seek out growth, such as workshops and training relevant to museum education and youth engagement. Qualifications Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-0301-9. For this position, Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-7 level in the Federal service, administering any type of complex program.
