Summary The Department of the Interior is devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources of this great nation, including National Parks, Landmarks, and the well-being of communities, including those of Native American, Alaska Natives and affiliated Islanders. Responsibilities This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary; Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs; Ocean, Great Lakes, and Coastal Program (OGLCP); Washington, DC At the full performance level GS-14 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Organizes regular Senior Ocean Policy Team (SOPT) meetings, drafts agendas, and provides meeting materials to facilitate productive meetings. 2) Prepares and reviews briefing or decision documents and reports that are used to develop the information critical to the secretarial decision-making process. 3) Reviews significant regulations proposed or under consideration by DOI bureaus and other Federal agencies to determine significant impact on DOI's mandates, programs, and polices related to ocean, Great Lakes, and coasts. 4) Fosters the departmental coordination of complex projects for the SOPT and Regional Ocean Contacts. 5) Collaborates and coordinates with leadership and staff of other offices or bureaus of the Department to gather factual information and positions on policy matters and to identify acceptable alternatives for resolving issues, especially related to ocean, Great Lakes, and coasts. 6) Performs the full range of supervisory duties to include planning and assigning work, establishing performance standards, approving leave, mentoring, coaching, and team building. The Office of the Secretary has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Washington, DC Salary Information: GS-14: $139,395 - $181,216 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. See http://www.sss.gov/. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-14, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) preparing policy positions and briefing papers for decision makers; 2) working in a multidisciplinary team environment to analyze complex issues and materials; 3) organizing meetings to include facilitation and collaboration to provide recommendations for policies, legislative proposals, or regulations; and 4) supervising or leading a team of professionals to meet project milestones and objectives. This includes holding stock in energy corporations which lease Federal lands (e.g.: oil, gas, coal, alternative energy resources, etc.). Current Federal employees or individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check; these will be handled on a case-by-case basis in coordination with the Bureau security office.
