American Trim Maintenance Apprenticeship in WAPAKONETA, Ohio

Job Summary:

Our apprenticeship program provides the ability to work towards completion of a State Certified Apprenticeship to become a Maintenance Mechanic.  This requires formal education, paid for by American Trim, and a set amount of on-the-job training hours.

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant facility and production equipment safely and efficiently, so as to produce a quality product. 

* Job Responsibilities:* Some of the duties the Apprentice will learn/train to do includes:

  1. Install, assemble and test new machines and equipment including: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, cutting, and programmable computers.
  2. Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on all equipment. Coordinates maintenance schedule with the Production Manager to minimize down time. 
  3. Inspect machines regularly for signs of malfunctions, including visual and sound inspections.
  4. Repair, install, adjust, and maintain machines or vehicles. Troubleshoots production issues: fix repair or replace as quickly as possible.
  5. Install and may fabricate machine guards.
  6. Perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on the building, facilitates and grounds. Work may include plumbing, plastering, concrete work, lawn work, snow removal, etc.
  7. Perform general custodial duties throughout facility.
  8. Clean and maintain the boiler; any mechanical and plumbing needs.
  9. Responsible for inside and outside sprinkler system.
  10. Assists in the monitoring and works with outside contractors.
  11. Perform safety checks and assist with maintaining procedure documentation.
  12. Assist with installation and setup of new building equipment.
  13. Keeps inventory of supplies i.e. oil, pipe fittings, nuts and bolts, etc. Orders supplies as needed if applicable.
  14. Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  15. Comply with all safety standards: Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Equipment Safety Analysis (ESA) and Area Safety Analysis (ASA).
  16. Ensure that job is run in environmental compliance after instructions from supervisor/environmental group.
  17. Other job duties as assigned by supervisor or group leader.

* Education, Skills and Experience:*

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Prior to entering the Apprenticeship, it is preferred the candidate either a) come from a vocational, or high school tech program, vocational or community-college level or b) have a minimum of one (1) year prior maintenance experience; preferably experience in programmable controls.
  • Must be able to commit to and complete a 4 year Apprenticeship Program: 8,000 on-the-job training hours; 576 hours of related instruction (144 hours per year).

* License, Certification or Special Requirements:*

Must be able to obtain certification in Press Safety.
