Madison County Personnel Dept. Public Health Sanitarian in Wampsville, New York

Madison County seeks a full time Public Health Sanitarian responsible for performing, under supervision, professional activities which may include the investigation and inspection of the non engineering aspects of environmental health control. The term "public health sanitarian" shall mean a person who applies the principles of the natural and social sciences for the detection, evaluation, control and management of those factors in the environment which influence the publics health. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of Environmental Health. General supervision is provided by the Public Health Director. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate technical personnel. The incumbent does related work as required.

Minimum requirements Either: A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelors Degree, or higher, including thirty credit hours in the natural sciences, of which not more than twelve credit hours may be in the applied sciences; or B. Five years of experience as a public health technician deemed satisfactory by the local Public Health Director and have satisfactorily completed a public health training course approved by the State Health Department.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: A. Possession of a valid New York State drivers license at the time of application and maintenance of said license for the duration of appointment. B. Candidates must satisfactorily complete a public health training course approved by the State Health Department within two years of appointment.

  • Minimum Qualifications derived from Title 10 NYCRR Section 11.111 ** The term natural science shall mean a science such as biology, chemistry, or physics that deals with the objects, phenomena, or laws of nature and the physical world. It shall include all physical and biological sciences.

* The term applied science shall mean science based courses in environmental technology, sanitation technology, medical technology, public health, infection control or food science.
