Clifford Academy, a private school at The Home For Little Wanderers in Walpole, MA is seeking a Per Diem Horticulture Class Vocational Instructor. Under the direction of the Principal and Vocational Coordinator, they will design and implement vocational curriculum for special needs students at varying academic levels.
How You’ll Be Making A Difference
Looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and resourceful gardener that has at least 5 years of professional horticulture experience or a bachelor's degree in horticulture or a related field. Certificate in horticultural therapy will be considered. Per diem seasonal position. Potential for full time employment. Must have Knowledge in horticulture, garden management and development. Will be responsible in maintaining the campus gardens.
Other responsibilities are as follows:
Development and maintenance of the campus garden.
Manage all aspects of garden planting, harvesting, weeding, and care.
Develop and facilitate therapeutic horticulture sessions with students of varying abilities.
Communicate with staff and volunteers about the garden.
Provide and create a safe physical and emotional environment for all.
Collaborate, support, and share feedback with Vocational Coordinator, Principal, and vocational team members.
Participate in mandated trainings.
Be willing to work with volunteers and volunteer groups.
Work in all types of weather conditions.
Keeps tools, materials and plants maintained.
Discusses staff issues directly with the Vocational Coordinator.
Additional related duties as requested.
To assist students to become more active learners and make substantial academic gains, Clifford Academy provides a year-round engaging and comprehensive program focused on education, career development, recreation/fitness, and an individualized therapeutic approach. Maintain current knowledge of the facility/agency’s behavior management principles, system, and procedures, including TCI training.
Meet and maintain liaison with collateral staff as required.
Participate in a variety of meetings. Maintain a safe, orderly environment.
Assist the Vocational Coordinator in the implementation of appropriate activities in the program.
Qualifications
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field + 5 years field experience
Previous experience working in education and/or with program specific population of children highly desirable
