Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Geologist to be located in Stantec’s Walnut Creek, CA office. As an Environmental Geologist, you will work with close guidance and supervision on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior geologist or engineer. You will participate in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of various environmental remediation projects. Your job responsibilities will include borehole logging, well installation and abandonments, groundwater monitoring/sampling, data analysis, and reporting. You will provide technical support in the preparation of site work plans, remedial investigations and feasibility studies, and other documents.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with other geologists and engineers to perform various aspects of environmental projects including application of scientific principles and techniques to collect and analyze data, assess the nature and extent of chemical contamination in soil, groundwater, and soil gas, and evaluate remedial technologies to mitigate chemical contamination.

  • Prepare, organize, and coordinate production of assigned sections of various deliverables such as work plans, site investigation reports, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and closure reports.

  • Assist in design and implementation of remedial actions for contaminated soil and groundwater including technology screening, pilot testing, field demonstrations, and startup, troubleshooting, and operation and maintenance activities for remediation systems.

  • Assist with basic geological duties on projects of various complexity.

  • Assist with onsite construction observation, contractor coordination, and inspection reports.

  • Develop an understanding of policies and procedures for Health, Safety, Security, and the Environment (HSSE), including client-specific training (as required).

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • At least three years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of small to medium projects in the environmental consulting industry.

  • Experience in routine groundwater and soil sampling procedures.

  • Solid skills in technical writing.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

  • OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER certification.

  • Checks own work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Manages time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Participates and collaborates in a project team setting and engages in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to liaise between clients, contractors, and third parties on-site.

  • Communicates in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, employees and visitors.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of environmental geology experience.

  • California Professional Geologist License or Geologist-in-Training certification (preferred).

This position is a combination of field and office work (approximately 60% field and 40% office). Majority of time spent in office environment will be prolonged sitting and computer work.

This position requires a pre-employment physical and background check (including drug/alcohol screen), and participation in a random drug/alcohol testing program.

Salary Range(s):

  • SF Area $34.57Per Hour - SF Area $50.14 Per Hour Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
