We are currently seeking talented individuals for our Technical Communicator position!

Here is some of what you’ll do…

POSITION SUMMARY:With minimal supervision, the Technical Communicator (TC) provides a comprehensive learning and development program for the HPC Technician workforce that enhances knowledge, skills, and productivity. The TC develops, designs, organizes, implements, and conducts apprentice and journeyman technician training programs. The TC creates and delivers technician entrance and advancement assessments. Working in conjunction with other TCs, the TC will assist as needed to communicate with Caterpillar and relay any pertinent information as needed to the customers and the dealership. The TC will provide technical and maintenance training for HPC customers as directed by management.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with creating and keeping the HPC technician competency database current for all tech levels.

  • Works with training administrators in recording and tracking training progress for all HPC technicians.

  • Working with the training administrators and managers, helps coordinate skills inventories for employees to identify training gaps and to create corresponding individual technician career development plans (TCDP).

  • Designs curricula and class materials and facilitates classes according to the skills inventory results.

  • Works with training personnel in developing and communicating class delivery schedules at assigned locations.

  • Attends CAT/Dealer classes to ensure proficiency with skills and to obtain/maintain required certifications (CIAP).

  • Keeps informed of new product introductions and conducts NPI courses for employees and customers as needed.

  • Coordinates alternative training delivery methods such as computer based training programs, web deliverable training programs, and distance learning programs for companywide learning programs.

  • Acts as an informal technical mentor to HPC apprentice technicians both in the shop and field environments.

  • Provides customer training as required to include but not limited to new machine delivery, operation and maintenance, ET, SIS, PartStore, and VisionLink upon request of management.

  • Works in a support capacity with HPC TC to ensure all dealership and customer TC related needs are met.

  • Assists TC in administering and maintaining ongoing log of product problems and actions that need resolution.

  • Proactively supports a positive safety culture with employees and customers.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have Associates degree (AA/AS) or equivalent.

  • Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.

  • Must have 3 years industry or related experience.

  • Must have proven written and oral communication skills.

  • Must have proven classroom management skills.

  • Must have proven presentation skills with ability to answer questions from management, employees, and customers.

  • Must have strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.

  • Must be flexible and have a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

  • Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team, handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.

  • Must be able to travel overnight as needed.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Walking: Moves about on foot, often through uneven terrain.

  • Hands/arms: Operates equipment and hand and power tools.

  • Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.

  • Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.

  • Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.

  • Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.

  • Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.

  • Climbing: In and out of equipment.

  • Vision: Reads work tickets and parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.

  • Talking: Communicates by phone and in person.

  • Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone, and in person.

  • Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles for extended periods.

  • Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment for extended periods.

  • Lifting: Lifts up to 60lbs. daily, frequent exertion.

    ENVIRONMENTAL:

  • Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.

  • Temp/Weather: Works in an office environment, with occasional shop requirements.

  • Exposure: Subject to foul odors, fumes, and harsh substances.
