Cornell Cooperative Extension CCE of Albany County Environmental Health Educator – Voorheesville, NY in Voorheesville, New York

The Environmental Health Educator primarily delivers US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair, & Painting (RRP) Initial and Refresher trainings in counties in and around the greater Capital Region. The educator assists with other environmental health programs as needed or assigned (e.g., radon, mold, indoor air quality, healthy homes, etc.). This position also coordinates assigned trainings including tracking, preparing, and submitting all required documentation for assigned programs.

This position works primarily out of the CCE Albany’s Voorheesville, NY office, but most trainings are conducted throughout the program region. The educator works as part of a flexible team - performing existing or new responsibilities which can change based on Association needs, new grant initiatives, etc.

We firmly believe in work-life balance and provide generous paid time off. This position is full-time. Compensation is paid at the rate of $23.61 per hour and includes 21 Vacation days, 14 Holidays, 3 Personal days and 12 Sick days annually. Mileage for work related travel is reimbursed. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. An Associate’s degree plus 2 years related experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

  • US EPA Certified Lead Renovator Certification or the ability to become certified within one month of hire.

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Ability to meet the frequent travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver’s license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends.

  • Ability to effectively deliver assigned programs; meet program goals; and meet data collection and reporting requirements.

  • Technology Skills - Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and deliver virtual programs as needed. Ability to learn and effectively use software including use of the internet, program related software, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience, education, or training in teaching workers or adults.

  • Demonstrated experience, education, or training in lead abatement, painting, carpentry, renovation, remodeling, occupational safety and health, or industrial hygiene.

    Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery – 70%

  • Teach existing educational programs including but not limited to the US EPA Lead Renovation, Repair, & Painting (RRP) initial and refresher trainings and additional environmental heath trainings as assigned. Teaches hands on activities.

  • Assist with other assigned programs.

  • Serve as subject matter resource; provide standard responses.

  • Participate as an active member of the CCE Albany CRD team.

  • Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.

  • Interact with program participants as part of program delivery.

  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

  • Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans as identified.

  • May assist in delivering innovative educational programs.

  • May assist in multidisciplinary or multi-association team efforts to deliver programs.

Program Evaluation – 5%

  • Implement program evaluation as designed.

  • Assist in making recommendations for improvements.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 5%

  • Assist in planning assigned programs.

  • Assist in developing, expanding, and enhancing relationships for the program.

Management – 5%

  • Assist in managing assigned programs.

  • May assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise.

Coordination/Operation – 10%

  • Coordinate assigned projects, programs, trainings, events, and meetings.

  • Set up rooms, displays, etc.

  • Administers existing US EPA tests to program participants.

  • Secures training facilities, appropriate number of assistant instructors, food, supplies, etc.

  • Recruit program participants.

  • Coordinate assigned projects, programs, trainings, events, and meetings.

  • May assist in the development of marketing or other materials.

  • Assist supervisor with drafting impacts statements, social media posts, etc.

  • Complete and submit all required reports, records, and documentation (e.g., program data, evaluation data, incident reports, expense reports, etc.) in a timely manner.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding all program participants.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
