Job Description
The Fitness Instructor will closely monitor all activities on the fitness floor and provide assistance to users as needed. Fitness Instructors ensures the safety and exercise efficacy of all fitness areas through education on weight room etiquette, proper strength and resistance training techniques, correct use of fitness equipment, maintaining cleanliness and proper functioning of all fitness equipment and areas, and enforcement of all user policies and procedures. Fitness Instructors will also have the opportunity to lead group fitness classes
Responsibilities:
Monitor all fitness areas by continuously walking throughout the floor. Be aware of patrons and activities taking place at all times
Assist patrons with proper equipment use and safety
Provide general fitness education to users
Enforce all Wellness and Recreation policies and rule
Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down
Prepare facility for daily opening/closing by following established procedure
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in academic good standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Education and Experience:
CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or, must receive certification within 30 days of hire
Any fitness certification, or obtain certification within 60 days of hire
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles
Knowledge of personal training and group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music,tempo, cuing technique, and rhythm
Other Requirements:
- Applicants interested in teaching classes must be available to teach any of the following times: Open - 10 am and/or 11 am - 1 pm and/or 4 pm - Close
