TThe referral and procedural scheduling specialist is responsible for scheduling appointments for Star Wellness patients. He/She will perform all functions related to insurance pre-authorizations and will schedule patient specialty and diagnostic testing appointments in a timely manner. He/She will follow-up with the patient and/or specialist/testing department regarding missed appointments and offer re-scheduling assistance according to department protocols. He/she will ensure receipt of medical records from outside providers and be responsible for referring any patient in need of financial assistance to the financial counselor. Excellent verbal skills, strong computer skills and attention to detail are required.

  • JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately completes the scheduling and insurance authorization process

  • Updates and communicates correct patient information to appropriate staff, departments and computer systems. Works with health center coordinator, supervisor and staff for any scheduling or insurance issues.

  • Maintains an ongoing knowledge of scheduling and insurance authorization procedures, as well as registration procedures.

  • Communicates all add on patients to receiving specialists or diagnostic departments

  • Monitors and maintains assigned worklists as assigned and handles accordingly.

  • Responds to patient’s needs by editing, cancelling and rescheduling appointments according to department protocols.

  • Project a professional Star Wellness image during all in person and telephonic patient encounters

  • Possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all customers (patients, providers and peers).

  • Displays proficiency in entering electronic data while interacting with patients, specialist offices and diagnostic departments.

  • Medical terminology necessary , bilingual in Spanish highly preferred

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or GED

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

One to two years of call center experience or experience in a medical office, hospital or business office with high patient/customer volumes.
