Summary:
Estimator Associate - Substation assists in preparing cost estimates for renewable energy and utility-owned substations related to high voltage electrical substation construction scopes of work, including utility-owned stand-alone and multi-scope renewable energy projects.
Project scope responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the procurement and installation of temporary construction facilities, project and field management, structural steel, HV bus and fittings, PTs and CTs, arrestors, circuit breakers and switches, concrete foundations, auxiliary AC equipment, and power wiring, cable conveyance systems, static masts and grounding system, SCADA/communication cabling, fencing, pull boxes, transformers, control buildings, engineering services, testing, taxes, contingency, warranties, margin.
This role will be hybrid requiring 3 days in office and 2 days working from home.
Requirements:
Handles project task assignments for contribution to multiple estimates.
Performs work under the direct supervision of a Lead Estimator.
Reviews RFP specifications and drawings to understand the scope of work task assignments for the estimate.
Requests and receives vendor quotes for materials, equipment, and services.
Performs quantity take-offs from Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and contributes to active estimates with a Senior or Lead Estimator oversight.
Assists in developing cost and schedule documentation supporting the bidding process.
Gathers details and maintains current market data to accurately estimate construction, material, and soft costs associated with project construction.
Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.
Collaborates with staff from other departments for regional taxes and HSQE evaluation costs.
Participates in estimate reviews and provides input to Sr. Estimator for SOV, ACE, and technical bid document preparation.
Assists in compiling historical cost data for projects.
Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED with at least 2 years industry experience required OR associate’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related area of study.
1 or more years of substation construction estimating experience preferred.
1 or more years of field-based construction estimating experience preferred.
Ability to travel domestically 5 to 15% required.
Basic working knowledge of substation construction scopes of work.
Experience with Engineer Procurement Construct (EPC) and Balance of Plant (BOP) self-perform estimating structure to create proposal estimates is preferred.
Familiarity with standard construction industry concepts, practices, and procedures.
Ability to perform component project estimate assignments, including vendor quote requests, performing quantity take-offs from RFP and engineered documents, and quantity entry into estimating software.
Intermediate math and computer skills are required.
Ability to drive innovation of new processes while supporting corporate standards for quality.
Detail-oriented and analytical thinking skills are required.
Experience with estimating software is preferred, HCSS suite of tools is advantageous.
Experience with Blue Beam/Adobe; AutoCAD a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, OneNote, Teams), and SharePoint.
Self-starter and able to complete tasks with moderate supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Desire to learn and apply knowledge quickly.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple assignments required.
Ability to regularly work in a highly collaborative team environment with third-party customers, developers, design engineers, estimating teams, pre-construction managers, construction managers, and executive managers.
Functional competencies include attention to detail, communication, customer focus, drive, and teamwork.
Anticipated base salary range: $71,000 - $83,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
