The role will focus on the development and delivery of our advisory services on Net Zero, decarbonisation, energy efficiency and sustainability in the real estate, retail and healthcare sectors amongst others.

As an Associate Consultant, you will be responsible for developing new opportunities and services in the built environment space, as well as providing expert and strategic decarbonisation advice to our existing and new clients.

In addition to the support to our clients, WSP UK has committed to halve the carbon footprint of our designs and advice by 2030 and will achieve carbon neutrality in our own UK operations by 2025. Both targets are in line with global goals to limit climate change to 1.5°C.   • Leading on the development of advisory studies related to decarbonisation, Net Zero, energy efficiency, low carbon HVAC, low-carbon heat and on-site renewables, with focus on the real estate, retails and healthcare sectors.

  • Developing technical decarbonisation advice, recommendations, scenarios or pathways for a variety of clients (from large-scale asset managers to public sector healthcare trusts or universities) as part of pieces of wider strategic support.

  • Managing advisory projects and clients.

  • Producing sustainability, energy and decarbonisation strategies for individual assets or portfolio, in line with the client’s, industry and policy objectives.

  • Working autonomously to understand the team’s scope of services, develop tailored project approaches to develop propositions and respond to client tenders. An element of being able to develop good client relationships will be required.

  • Undertaking energy efficiency and net zero site audits of complex commercial, retail, healthcare or industrial facilities.

  • Writing up technical and strategic reports for clients, indifferent formats, from short presentations to long reports.

  • Contributing to the delivery of the ESOS service (not the team’s main service).

  • Contributing to the team’s delivery of wider energy efficiency, Net Zero, sustainability and ESG projects.

  • Experience in managing projects, people and clients.

  • A proactive and problem-solving approach to technical and strategic challenges.

  • Deep knowledge and significative experience in building services, HVAC, renewables and low-carbon technologies.

  • Deep understanding of the main UK/EU decarbonisation policies, trends and the state of the art of key decarbonisation technologies.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Track record of technical and advisory work delivered in the built environment decarbonisation space within the private real estate and built environment sectors, or similar (e.g. healthcare, public sector).

  • Chartered engineer or chartered energy manager status is preferred, through membership of the Energy Institute, CIBSE, IET, IEMA or other similar professional bodies.
