We are seeking an Associate/Associate Director Environmental Project Manager to join our Infrastructure Delivery Management Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to both project manage environmental services on nationally significant infrastructure projects, and take a leading role in strategic business development.

The successful candidate will have experience in leading positions within multi-disciplinary project teams, have a proven technical background in an environmental discipline and possess a working knowledge of the PM lifecycle. Furthermore, they will be an excellent communicator, who can inspire a shared vision and demonstrate a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.

The project management aspect of the role attracts responsibility for ensuring the timely delivery and robust management of project and will involve working both independently and leading a project team, as well as engaging with senior team members.

As a project manager, you will handle all core PM activities. You will have responsibility for ensuring all tasks are completed satisfactorily by you and your team, on time and within budget. You will be responsible for working collaboratively to identify issues, quantify risks and implement mitigations. You will monitor project activities, including the programme – knowledge of Primavera P6 is advantageous - working with dedicated planners, and compile and communicate key metrics through project reporting. You will manage contractual change in the first instance - a working knowledge of contract management systems, such as CEMAR, is desirable.

The business development aspects if the role will see you support and develop a strategic approach, focussing on delivery of environmental design services in the Design and Build market sector, and have a leading role in managing and developing productive and long-term client relationships.

  • Leading role within a multi-disciplinary project team

  • Consultation and engagement with WSP’s functional support teams

  • Delivering accurate periodic project reports

  • Facilitating effective planning (programme management)

  • Responsibility for complying with WSP safety, health and wellbeing standards

  • Apply project controls through WSP and client systems

  • Review contract scope and manage and communicate change

  • Managing the interface between the Client and WSP teams

  • Lead risk workshops and develop mitigations

  • Ensure quality procedures are adhered to

  • Explore and implement efficiencies to give 'added value'

  • Undertake market and client analysis

  • Input to strategic business goals

  • Undertake client facing business development activities

  • Degree in an Environmental Discipline - an MSc is desirable

  • APM/MSP/PMI/PRINCE2/Six Sigma qualifications or similar

  • Membership of a Professional Institution - chartered is preferable

  • Experience in delivering NEC3/4 contracts and D&B contract knowledge

  • Demonstrable capability and experience in Project Management

  • Evidence of successful delivery of environmental services in infrastructure projects

  • Proven ability to lead and work successfully in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and stakeholders

  • Ability to coordinate the submission of accurate reports to predetermined deadlines

  • Have a working knowledge of Safety in Design

  • Ability to interrogate, question and challenge information

  • Experience of technical reporting in an environmental discipline

  • Working knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation in the UK.
