We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Associate Director to join our Environment discipline. This is a post which is of strategic significance for our discipline and represents a challenging and exciting opportunity to identify, win and deliver multi-disciplinary inputs to a range of asset management projects for a wide client base. Our current project portfolio includes some strategically important and transformational renewal projects at the heart of helping the UK to meet its commitments to Net Zero. We need people with creative spirit, a dedicated approach and a solid grounding in environmental design, and project management relating to the technical teams of Ecology, Landscape, Acoustics, Air Quality and Heritage at all stages of the development project lifecycle.

As an Associate Director you will work with a range of technical environmental specialists and design teams across multiple business units to direct and lead environmental teams and inputs to project designs and assessments. You will be instrumental in improving the environmental and commercial performance for a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors.

The role would suit an enthusiastic individual looking to influence, lead and deliver environmental elements of infrastructure asset management projects. You will have responsibility for directing and leading projects including tasks relating to bidding, project team management, project delivery, and financial management.

  • Work alongside our technical teams to price and deliver schemes, and to ensure efficient use of resources and production of cost-effective solutions;

  • Leading and monitoring the culture, safety standards and performance of asset management projects and frameworks;

  • Supporting the operation and delivery of asset management projects and frameworks;

  • Providing policy and guidance to promote consistency, implement key initiatives and apply innovative practices across projects and frameworks;

  • Communication and collaboration with the wider business;

  • Facilitating communication and knowledge sharing across the technical teams within the Environment business unit;

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key WSP delivery discipline leads, and effectively manage delivery risks and opportunities;

  • Act as Project Director on key asset management schemes and monitor and improve the performance of projects;

  • Have an overarching understanding of environmental risks and opportunities;

  • Responsible for ensuring that the Environment disciplines are appropriately represented at client and framework meetings;

  • First point of contact for all asset management projects and frameworks in Environment;

  • Provide support to project / framework Quality Managers on contractual matters;

  • Oversee agreement and governance of Work Orders and subcontracts;

  • Champion BMS processes and commercial best practice;

  • Promoting an inclusive workplace, demonstrating an understanding of Health and Safety whilst living the values of our health, safety, and wellbeing culture; and

  • Undertaking actions that contribute towards the success of the WSP business strategy, whilst being self-motivated towards goals relevant to the role, team, and your projects.

  • Relevant environmental degree or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrable experience in environmental asset management delivery and Framework management for infrastructure schemes

  • Familiarity with other consenting processes such as Habitats Regulations Assessments, SSSI Assents, Scheduled Monument Consents, Section 61 application etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of a diverse range of environmental issues

  • Proven track record of developing and upskilling internal teams

  • Evidence of successfully driving business growth and supporting junior staff

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
