Amentum Fleet Operations Supervisor in Antarctica
Position Responsibilities:
Implements and maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority
Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with the National Science Foundation, station management, other contractors, and subordinates as needed to coordinate efficient and effective use of all Fleet Operations personnel and equipment.
Plans, establishes goals, prioritizes and schedules work center tasks and work assignments. Receives requests and schedules personnel and assets to meet planned requirements.
Effectively lead teams to achieve departmental goals on a daily, weekly, seasonal, and long-term basis. Teams could include foreman, crane operators, HEO leads, heavy equipment operators, equipment operators and others.
Ensures all personnel are trained to safely perform their assigned tasks.
Ensures all team members perform daily equipment checks and inspections on lifting fixtures in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and established procedures.
Ensures all team members properly complete timecard and Maximo (work-order, timesheet, project and equipment hours, etc) on a daily basis.
Completes pre-season and end-of-season team member performance evaluations in accordance with established HR procedures.
Coordinates with the Vehicle Maintenance facility and Operations Manager to plan equipment maintenance and repairs and ensures team members report equipment hours within 25 hours of PM due.
Generates input and provide relevant data for the Equipment Replacement Plan regarding equipment demands and vehicle applicability.
Maintains accurate inventory and assures adequate materials are on hand for planned work.
Develops personnel with succession and long-term knowledge in mind.
Tracks data as requested by Operations Manager.
Performs duties as required in support of ASC goals and contractual commitments
Complies with and ensures all team members understand and comply with ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals and provides documentation to these divisions as necessary.
Ensures all spills are properly reported and mitigated per existing SOP’s
Reports and documents incidents in a timely manner.
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy.
Maintains self-control and represents ASC-Amentum to the highest standards on and off hours and sets a positive example for others to follow.
Performs other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
High School diploma or GED.
5 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator.
1 year of prior supervisory/leadership experience.
Experience in leading and managing heavy equipment operations or construction projects.
Expected Skills and Competencies:
Ability to manage teams in a resource and equipment limited work environment with regular re-directs and change orders in a calm, collected and respectful manner.
Ability to maintain labor budget with guidance from fulltime supervisor, as well as provide labor and equipment projections and feedback for daily, weekly, seasonal planning and scheduling is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Must have excellent verbal and written skills.
Team player and group dynamics are of the utmost importance.
Preferred:
Previous Antarctic heavy equipment and leadership experience
Ability to make informed mechanical decisions about the usability of equipment.
Prior cold-climate equipment operations experience.
Class A CDL.
Prior experience in building/maintaining roads, highways, or airfields.
Snow grooming, moving experience.
Rigging certifications, knowledge or experience.
Physical and/or Other Requirements :
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
