Department Summary:

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) & U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) Operations Department (N256) provides applied systems and mission engineering to both Combatant Commands (CCMD). N256 is a critical element of the Joint Staff / Unified CCMD Division (N250), emphasizing collaboration and mission-focused solutions for our Nation’s two newest CCMDs. This position focuses on working with Combined Joint Force Space Component Command as part of a portfolio that addresses the hardest challenges wining USSPACECOM and its Allies and partners to plan, execute, and integrate military space power into the multi-domain global operations to deter aggression, defend national interests, and when necessary, defeat threats.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Apply systems engineering and operational knowledge to integrate operational and emerging space capabilities with supported warfighter plans and CJFSCC and HQ USSPACECOM planning and architecture elements.

  • Identify opportunities to implement innovative technical solutions to address sponsor and enterprise challenges.

  • Support CJFSCC and USSPACECOM in modernizing and standardizing use of space systems.

  • Collaborate with MITRE colleagues supporting other space enterprise organizations and programs to advocate for user needs, identify capability shortfalls and recommend solutions to increase operational effectiveness.

  • Build relationships within MITRE and across the space enterprise to enable stronger and more effective international information sharing capabilities/constructs for the space domain.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years relevant Space System experience, or a Master’s degree and 5 years’ relevant experience.

  • Working knowledge of and familiarity with Service/Joint space systems, processes, and operations.

  • Experience supporting Joint or Combined space operations.

  • Detailed knowledge space C2 or sensor systems.

  • Active TS/SCI required, ability to be cleared for Special Access Programs.

  • Ability to document and communicate results, summarizing and presenting findings to key stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in technical discipline (engineering, computer science, math, data analytics, or related physical sciences).

  • More than 10 years’ experience working in a space mission area, with recent experience (within the last two years) working in the Space Defense Systems domain.

  • Expertise in at least one major DoD/IC space system (technical/system or operations).

  • Prior military assignment analyzing data relating to space operations.

  • Experience conceiving, developing, and fielding space-related solutions for a Joint or Combined space organization.

  • Experience with requirements documentation and program/mission gap analysis.

  • Experience integrating Special Access Program capabilities with white world systems and processes.

  • Experience working on-site at a sponsor location and/or with international allies and partners.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$138,500 - $173,000 - $207,500 Annual
