Microsoft Corporation Senior UI/UX Engineer in Vancouver, British Columbia

We are the team behind all the PSTN scenarios across multiple products, and develop one of the largest scale, business-critical distributed systems in Microsoft. Our services run in multiple regions, and we process millions of calls, enabling hundreds of millions of active enterprises as well as consumer users. The microservices are highly scalable, highly available, and extremely performant in geo-redundant, multi-tenant systems and honor data sovereignty, privacy, security, and compliance. We are seeking a Senior UI/UX Engineer with experience in designing, developing, and operating front-end services.

The successful individual has experience building design systems and is a proactive problem-solver with a passion for getting the details right. They understand that the backbone of creating excellent, and accessible web experiences are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - the fundamental building blocks of the web. They know these technologies down to the core - their strengths and their weaknesses. Their deep understanding of these technologies allows them to make informed architectural decisions and appropriate trade-offs when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and operate features for large scale distributed software services and solutions. 

  • Adhere to modern software engineering practices through design and code reviews. 

  • System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions.

  • Develop “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable. 

  • Write clean and optimized code, improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.

  • Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.

  • Gain a working understanding of Microsoft as a business and collaborate with mentors and leaders in order to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.

  • Focus on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.

  • Contribute to team success by taking part in rotational on call/maintenance engagements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience in building on web technologies and frameworks (JavaScript / ReactJS/ TypeScript / HTML / CSS /GraphQL ).

  • Experience with architecting UI design/development from scratch and establishing standards of modularity, reusability to operate at scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in building on web technologies and frameworks (JavaScript / ReactJS/ TypeScript / HTML / CSS /GraphQL ).

  • Cloud and services experience, with Azure cloud experience highly desirable. 

  • Good analytical skills with systematic and structured approach to software design. 

  • Experience with web fundamentals, application performance analysis and improvement.

  • Design and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of engineering excellence at scale.

  • Commitment to building highly scalable, highly reliable services. 

  • Experience with or exposure to Agile and iterative development processes. 

  • Proficient with written and verbal communication skills.

  • Curiosity and willingness to learn, share and improve.

  • Proven track record as a performer with significant direct technical contribution.

  • Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and\or application frameworks. 

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $104,000 - CAD $193,200 per year.
