Aston Carter Controller in Valencia, California
Description
This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing all financial functions — from job costing and WIP reporting to budgeting, compliance, and team management. You’ll report directly to ownership and work closely with project management to keep the financial engine running smoothly. Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Support the Controller in preparing accurate and timely financial statements and reports. Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support management decision-making. Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts and monitor cash flow. Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure accurate project cost accounting and reporting. Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets. Manage the preparation of audit work papers and coordinate with external auditors during annual audits. Provide support in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems. Mentor and train accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed. Perform financial analysis and reporting as requested by senior management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
· 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar (CPA a plus) · Strong grasp of job cost accounting, WIP, and % of completion methods · Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g. Viewpoint-Vista, HCSS, etc.) · Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment · Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills. · Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills Construction experience is highly preferred because of their industry • Job costing • 15-20 active projects on average about $8-10M but up to $40M occasionally • Sales forecasting and projections • Utilities are okay (Taft electric ex. Is within the construction space) • Residential, commercial, civil construction all within that realm is okay • ERP: Vista by Viewpoint or other similar ERP's (medium to large) • Strong GAAP experience • YOE: 3-5 years of accounting experience • Open to senior project accountants or accounting supervisor/manager that are ready for next steps • Would work side by side with Accounting Manager and AP Manager

The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
