Job Summary:

Electrical Engineer with experience on basic and detailed design and project co-ordination of Electrical works on Data Center Projects. Has a good knowledge of Electrical System and Physical design, the principles, and practices of related technical areas and of coordinating with other technical disciplines. Candidate should have exposure to Indian, US, Euro and other foreign codes/standards and local practices.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs electrical discipline work which involves the preparation, interpretation or review of calculations, specifications, electrical layout plans including lighting and grounding systems for data center projects.

  • Uses engineering computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD/CAE) tools.

  • Reviews design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors of a moderate degree of complexity and prepares comments & recommendations.

  • Assists in preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs and change orders.

  • Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon directness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

  • Monitor electrical engineering staff at junior levels, if required.

  • Develop and implement best practices, standards, and guidelines for data center electrical systems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to deliver integrated data center solutions.

  • Engage with clients to understand their specific data center requirements and provide technical expertise and solutions.

  • Build strong client relationships through effective communication and project delivery.

  • Attend and participate in client and PM Group meetings.

  • Analyze complex engineering problems and offer effective solutions.

  • Lead the design and optimization of electrical distribution systems for data centers, including power generation, UPS systems, and distribution networks.

  • Check other electrical engineers work for accuracy and quality and undertake peer reviews.

  • Provide support to fee and capital budget proposals as required.

  • Assemble and manage bid, approval, and construction issue electrical packages in an efficient and lean manner.

  • Requires extensive and contact with clients, vendor’s representatives and project field personnel.

  • Direct and/or participate in project site visits to monitor, review and sign-off electrical installations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A recognized bachelor’s/master’s degree in electrical engineering, from an accredited college or university with an overall experience of minimum 15 years with minimum 5 years data center project.

  • Site experience will be an added advantage.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.

  • Demonstrable advanced experience in the complete suite of electrical engineering design services. This include (but is not limited to) HV, MV and LV power distribution, generators, UPS systems, lighting & emergency lighting, vertical transportation, small power, voice / data, cable containment, fire alarm, security, lightning protection, earthing & bonding, hazardous areas and specialist control systems.

  • Experience of preparing technical specifications, datasheets, material requisitions and vendor print reviews for various electrical equipment.

  • Advanced knowledge of all applicable electrical engineering codes, standards and acceptable industry practices.

  • Commercially aware and have ability to undertake value engineering activities and implement new technologies where they are implemented to provide costs effective solutions for our clients.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to prepare written specifications and contract documents.

  • Have a strong working knowledge of carrying out short circuit calculations, load flow and discrimination studies utilising proprietary modelling software (Amtech / Caneco / SKM).

  • Professional approach and demeanour. A strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business.

  • Knowledge of project controls within discipline.
