Description Job Purpose: Provide patient care and support for patients receiving monitored anesthesia care. The CRNA will participate in the preparation, administration and recovery of patients undergoing monitored anesthesia care for procedures in the ASCs. The CRNA will work independently or in conjunction with an Anesthesiologist and a Proceduralist to provide safe and high quality care for procedures in the ACSs. Other duties may include participating in other related activities as delineated by clinical and nonclinical responsibilities and needs of the department. Essential Functions: In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily and regular attendance is required. Key Responsibilities: Review patient history in pre-procedure setting in order to determine best practice care. Develops plans of care for patients, in conjunction with an Anesthesiologist or Proceduralist During procedure, monitor and assess the patient as well as administer anesthesia and manage the patient's reactions accordingly. Ensures patients are stable for transfer of care to a recovery nurse. Discharge patients from recovery as appropriate. Clinical Responsibilities: Care will be delivered based on the Standards of Care as outlined by the AANA (American Association of Nurse Anesthetists) and the ASA (American Association of Anesthesiologists) Preanesthesia assessment and risk stratification based on evidence based practice Requesting laboratory/diagnostic studies as necessary Preanesthetic medication General anesthesia and adjuvant drugs Regional Blocks: Local infiltration Topical Sedation techniques Cardiopulmonary resuscitation management Invasive and noninvasive monitoring Airway management techniques Mechanical ventilation/oxygen therapy Fluid, electrolyte, acid-base management Peripheral intravenous/arterial catheter placement Acute and chronic pain therapy Post anesthesia care/discharge Qualification Requirements: The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the essential functions of this position. Educational Requirements: Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor. Certifications/Licenses: Holds current state licensure as a registered nurse and advanced practice nurse in the state of Minnesota. Complies with state statutory or regulatory requirements concerning advanced practice registered nursing. Is currently certified by the Council on Certification of Nurses Anesthetists or its predecessor (NBCRNA) Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by this institution or state. Demonstrates current competency in nurse anesthesia clinical responsibilities; Has a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in the field of nurse anesthesia Provides references that demonstrates clinical competency in nurse anesthesia Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of: Gastrointestinal system Principles for providing compassionate care Infection control practices Emergency response Word processing Outlook email exchange Skills: Compassionate patient care Active listening Problem solve, prioritization, and critical thinking Attention to detail Organization and time management Strong Assessment Skills Ability to: Problem Solve Multitask Prioritize and be detail oriented Work effectively individually as well as a part of a tea Use active listening skills Communicate effectively verbally and in writing Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of the physical demands required by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to walk, sit, reach over head and bend to the floor and frequently required to stand for long periods of time. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. The employee will be required to apply pressure to abdomen while assisting with procedures. The employee is regularly required to use dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and perform venipuncture. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The CRNA must be able to work for periods of time without a break. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training will be provided. The employee is exposed to a computer monitor daily. The employee may be required to travel by automobile and exposed to changing weather conditions while performing the duties of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be alert to conditions that may impact the safety of patients, employees and visitors.
