Our Mission Statement: The Rescue Mission of Utica, Inc. is a Christian Ministry, established to proclaim, in word and deed, the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ, by unconditionally endeavoring to assess and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those individuals seeking assistance.Job Title: Counselor Assistant in our Addiction Stabilization CenterThe Counselor Assistant works under the supervision of a Credentialed Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or other Qualified Health Professional (QHP) as designated by the Program Director. This entry-level position assists the client with basic needs and supports professional staff to help the client through the stabilization service of withdrawal, treatment and referral.A Counselor Assistant function is part of the primary care team and communicates information to specific team members, as well as performing various tasks based on the condition and needs of the client. The Counselor Assistant is expected to reinforce all decisions made by the Treatment Team and to follow all policies of the Rescue Mission of Utica, Addiction Stabilization Center as well as adhere to the NYS OASAS Canon of Ethics.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS•Assist in completing client admissions. •Provide orientation to program services to all clients.•Assist in completing screenings and routing incoming phone calls to clinical staff.•Report all observations, interactions and behaviors of a medical nature to nursing staff. •Document shift notes, opening notes, behavior incidents, client activity logs, discharges and completes all NYS OASAS forms as required.•Audit records, filing information according to NYS OASAS requirements. •Direct observation of client urine screening.•Search individuals and their belongings.•Provide basic crisis response along with team members.•Co-facilitate evidence based material to group setting.•Participate in regular weekly scheduled clinical supervision meetings with the supervisor.•Follow established emergency procedures including fire drills, evacuation procedure and disaster plans.•Help maintain safety and security by monitoring cameras, searching clients and their belongings per policy. Monitor client activities and perform building checks. •Maintain positive liaison relationships with other community agencies, i.e. Department of Social Services, Probation, Vocational Rehabilitation, Alcoholic Anonymous, Al-Anon, ACOA and other Addiction Service Providers.•Assist in general daily duties such as: complete client laundry, include but not limited to folding client’s laundry and returning to client, placing linens in the pick up area, and cleaning kitchen/dishes.•Supervise clients in the dining room during meals and their living areas etc. •Light housekeeping, cleaning and making beds.•Receive and document deliveries, monitor inventory, stock shelves, e.g. request and stock kitchen and refrigerator items etc.•Update the Program Director and/or Clinical Coordinator in a timely manner about all matters, seek advice and counsel and develop a spirit of cooperation and team work in carrying out assigned responsibilities.•May be required to transport clients to appointments as needed.•Comply with Canon of Ethical Principles as outlined by the NY State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and the RMU Employee Handbook.•Abide by all Mission, program and safety policies, procedures and guidelines.•Attend and participate in all mandatory meetings and trainings, Treatment Team and in-service trainings as requested by supervisor.•All other duties assigned by your supervisor.MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS •Minimum of High School diploma or GED.•Prior work experience in substance use disorder treatment program preferred.•Intermediate skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.•Current, clean and valid New York State driver’s license preferred. •Ability and commitment to the Ethical Principles of Substance Abuse Counselors.•Enthusiastic support of our Mission Statement.Status/Hours: Part Time -8pm-8amPay Rate: $16.00-16.50 per hour DOEBenefits: We offer a comprehensive benefit package for eligible employees to include medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k), voluntary benefits, paid time off, holidays and paid training.The Rescue Mission of Utica is an equal opportunity employer encouraging individuals with disabilities and veterans to apply.
