Resource Center for Independent Living American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advocate in Utica, New York

Annual Non-Exempt Salary: $37,849.50

Benefits:

  • 37.5 hour work week, 7.5 hour work day, flexible work schedule menu to include the ability to work: a four-day work week, four-day work week, every other week, or a typical five-day work schedule

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide services to assist and support individuals with disabilities to live independently in the community.

  • Provide accessibility consultation and technical assistance to agencies, businesses, public spaces, and other places that interact with members of the disability community.

  • Work with individuals to increase accessibility in their homes and/or living spaces and assist in obtaining appropriate medical equipment of service.

  • Maintain current knowledge of disability/accessibility laws/regulations.

  • Collaborate and support team members on access issues and other advocacy projects. Coordinate steps for projects.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, completed the ADA Coordinator Training Certification Program or successfully complete the training within the first six months of employment.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Two to four years working with people with disabilities.

  • Medicaid, Medicare, and community-based services for people with disabilities and seniors.

  • Fair Housing Act, Rehabilitation Act (Section 504), ADA, state and local building codes, environmental modifications (E-mods), durable medical equipment (DME), and Assistive Technology (AT).
