Job Summary
Install, maintain, repair, and operate electrical equipment during its use, construction, or remodeling.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Install and maintain electrical systems that operate on alternating or direct current circuits, generators, and appliances through panels, switches, meters, and circuit breakers.
- Repair, maintain, and install motors and related electrical and electronic controls.
- Repair, maintain, and install electrical switchboards, panels, circuits, public address systems, and electrical supplies to household appliances, air conditioners, furnaces, and other devices utilizing electricity.
- Install and maintain direct digital control systems, fire alarm systems, batteries systems, VFD\'s, PLC controllers, and associated electrical, electronic, and fiber optic equipment.

Additional Physical Demands
1. Work is assigned through the Foreperson, Sub-Foreperson, Work Management Group, Service office, or via the Director of Building Maintenance & Grounds or his Designee in oral or written form. The Electrician is responsible for assuring their work is completed properly in accord with statues and codes in a safe and timely manner. The Electrician is expected to support the Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and management operational directions and philosophies of Facilities and Services. The Electrician must exemplify high standards of professionalism, loyalty, craftsmanship, and dedication.
2. Interacts with campus customers, supervision, and peers. Creates a work environment which develops accountability for performance and develops teamwork and unity within the shop and throughout the University campus.
3. May work in extreme weather conditions.
4. Must be aware of potential danger from moving parts and equipment.
5. May be exposed to dust, loud noise, smoke, and cleaning compounds.
6. May work in temperature extremes ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels.
7. May work at heights to inspect equipment located on platforms or hung above tall ceilings.
8. May work amid hazards of work sites such as dust, noise, and in areas such as coal-fired power plants, animal rooms, and laboratories.
9. May be exposed to radiation, chemical fumes, and energized electrical equipment. Use of Personal Protective
Equipment is required when hazards exist.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.
3. Possession of a valid State of Illinois driver\'s license at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to effectively supervise others (plan, organize, prioritize, assign, and follow-up) assignments.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, sketches, blueprints, and job specifications.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code and University Facilities Standards.
Thorough knowledge of electrical systems.
Thorough knowledge of the tools, testers, and equipment used in the electrical industry.
Thorough knowledge of safety procedures.
