Department of Campus Recreation
Job Summary
Responsible for the implementation, promotion, direction, and supervision of the Community (including summer camp) and Club Sports-focused programs as well as assisting with Intramurals Activities programs. Provide recreation opportunities that are responsive, inclusive, accessible, and fun as part of the offerings of University of Illinois Campus Recreation for both the campus and greater Champaign-Urbana community.
Community Programs (40%)
1. Develop, coordinate, manage, and evaluate Campus Recreation summer camp programs and other one-o? similar
o?erings throughout the year.
2. Hire, train, evaluate, promote student community programs sta? tasked with organizing and managing all youth program
groups.
3. Schedule, plan, and implement community program reservations, equipment purchases/maintenance, and evaluation.
4. Assist in the maintenance of Community Program policies, pricing packages, and employee handbooks.
5. Manage program budget for staffing, marketing materials. outreach events, and equipment replacement plans.
6. Maintain a working knowledge of industry trends and present new initiatives each semester.
7. Evaluate program satisfaction and needs assessment annually and implement strategies for program retention and growth.
8. Support University of Illinois\' commitment to child abuse prevention as a mandatory reporter.
9. Perform needs assessment annually, driving the direction of outreach and program growth.
10. Manage and approve part-time staff payroll and ensure staff meet department certification deadlines.
Intramurals (30%)
1. Provide comprehensive and inclusive recreation opportunities for the campus community.
2. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, discipline, evaluate, and develop intramural sta?.
3. Collaborate with internal and external departments on campus to reach diverse student populations.
4. Responsible for administrative tasks such as student payroll, budget, and reservations
5. Ensure all sta? participants follow risk management procedures.
6. Maintain and update all intramural policies & procedures, manuals, and trainings as needed.
7. Communicate regularly with the Assistant Director by providing updates on sta?, budgets, purchases, and program
activities.
8. Assist Marketing with promotion of programs through interactive tabling, informational events, new student orientations,
and innovative advertising.
9. Implement program and event updates based on campus community interests and needs.
10. Promote student development by encouraging participation in conferences, tournaments, scholarships, internships, and
graduate assistantships.
11. Review and enforce participant suspensions in accordance with the intramural handbook.
12. Submit, compile, and track intramural and sport club data throughout school year.
13. Coordinate program outreach e?orts and initiate new campus partnerships.
14. Ensure department risk management plan is implemented effectively.
Club Sports (20%)
1. Structure an adhesive and organized Club Sports program and work cooperatively with Campus Recreation and Student Engagement sta? to assist with administration of over 40 club sport teams.
2. Enforce University and department club sports policies, including discipline and risk management to ensure proper
procedure is followed daily as it applies to club sports operations and functions.
3. Work with all Club Sports to ensure applicable University policies and procedures are being followed, including those of
University and Student Engagement office.
4. Develop leadership a curriculum for club sports o?cers and executive board trainings.
5. Work collaboratively with Campus Rec sta? to schedule practices, special events and home competitions in addition to
addressing any maintenance needs and issues.
6. Collect and maintain information with regards to team rosters, eligibility, schedules, waivers, and outdoor facility usage.
7. Hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate part-time employees to assist in the oversight of Club Sports.
Department (10%)
1. Work cooperatively with other Campus Recreation program areas when needed, including the development of
collaborative programming.
2. Participate as a member of the Campus Recreation professional sta? in the development and implementation of policies
and procedures.
3. Compile information and data in conjunction with monthly, mid-year and yearly reports. Including, but not limited to,
Federal Work Study information and diverse student hires.
4. Secure, maintain, and inventory associated equipment and supplies in conjunction with the Campus Recreation Business
O?ce. Recommend necessary equipment and supply purchases as needed. Develop policies and procedures related to the
evaluation of unit facilities and equipment.
