JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Laboratory of Tim Miyashiro in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Research Technologist – Life Sciences (Professional). The Miyashiro Lab investigates how beneficial microbes associate with a eukaryotic host using the Hawaiian bobtail squid-Vibrio fischeri symbiosis as an experimental platform with approaches based on molecular genetics and cell biology. Primary job duties will include maintaining a Euprymna scolopes (Hawaiian bobtail squid) mariculture facility; construct mutants of the bacterium Vibrio fischeri; conduct microbiology and colonization assays; and order, organize, and maintain lab supplies, equipment, and stocks. There will be opportunities to attend workshops, seminars, and other career development events. Preferred candidates will have experience with aquaculture systems, microbiology, and cell biology techniques. Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
