JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences of the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar. The position will involve being responsible for performing laboratory research on oxide, nitride, and carbide thin films for electronic applications. The position is based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, working under the supervision of Professor Jon-Paul Maria, and there will be opportunities to collaborate and interact with a broad group of faculty and students.

Responsibilities:

  • Should be a technical lead for an interdisciplinary research team of graduate students, postdocs, and faculty members who are collaborating to identify new materials, determine their properties, and integrate them into microelectronic circuits.

  • The candidate is expected to contribute to designing, preparing, and characterizing new memory materials, and coordinating the collective research efforts of graduate students also funded by this program in 4 partnering universities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline by the time of hire.

  • The candidate should have experience in x-ray diffraction, microstructure characterization, structure-property relationship analysis, dielectric testing, and scientific writing.

  • A successful candidate should have a strong background in material synthesis, defect chemistry, and structural and electrical characterization of electroceramics.
