Job Description
We are seeking a multi-skilled Field Service Technician to join our established company in the waste & recycling industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for resolving and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic issues on refuse/recycling equipment. This role involves traveling to multiple sites to analyze, test, troubleshoot, repair, or rebuild various components on equipment or perform structural repairs, including welding. Superior attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple service calls a day are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Perform repairs on refuse/recycling equipment, containers, and chute systems.
Conduct site surveys, record pertinent information, and take measurements.
Install compactors, balers, and trash chutes.
Diagnose the cause of mechanical or electrical malfunctions using schematics, manuals, and expertise.
Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, and complete checklists with recommended repairs.
Complete paperwork associated with repairing equipment, documenting part usage, and accounting for labor and travel of each service call.
Maintain good communication and relationships with new and established customers.
Prepare estimates of recommended and additional repairs that need to be completed.
Perform minor repairs and apply basic welding processes.
Maintain proper inventory levels of most commonly needed parts on the service truck.
Essential Skills
Basic understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
PLC troubleshooting and problem-solving ability with practical mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Skill in operating tools, equipment, parts, and procedures utilized during the repair and servicing of compactors, balers, containers, and chute systems.
Ability to perform under limited supervision.
High level of integrity and solid work ethic; dependable.
Knowledge of safety procedures while operating or repairing compactors, balers, containers, or chute systems.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to read and understand schematics.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Willingness to accept responsibility and flexibility to any assignment.
Willingness to work overtime when needed to complete a service call.
Good time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
Ability to operate a forklift.
Ability to navigate the bay area effectively with maps or GPS technology.
Ability to work in an environment that could consist of oil, dirt, odor, and high noise.
A valid driver’s license with a good DMV record.
Knowledge and experience with basic welding techniques.
Knowledge of OSHA laws.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Mechanical or trade school certificate preferred.
1-3 years’ experience in electro-mechanical field service or equivalent.

Work Environment
Must be comfortable working near waste and not afraid to get hands dirty. The role involves working in various weather conditions with exposure to the elements. Physical demands include lifting up to 125 lbs on occasion and 50-75 lbs regularly, bending, squatting, maneuvering into tight spaces, and working at heights or depths greater than ten feet. The work environment could consist of oil, dirt, odor, and high noise, with tasks involving fine, controlled muscular movements and operating within small, cramped areas.

This is a Permanent position based out of Union City, California.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
