Job Description

Job Location: Twinsburg, Ohio

The systems engineering team lead is responsible for the oversight of the systems engineering design and development functions for the site as well as development of electrical systems for state-of-the-art electrical and electronic designs for use in commercial and military fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft. This role will be responsible for leading systems engineering efforts and coordinating with other functional teams within engineering in supporting New Product Development, R & T, and Bid & Proposal projects while also originating specifications for electrical systems, performing reviews and validation of sub-specifications, managing problem reports within the team, assisting in the development of verification testing (including rigs, requirements, etc.), and serving as an engineering representative for technical questions posed by customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Provides leadership & motivation in managing the activities of the systems engineering team to ensure best performance from all within the group

•Responsible for resource planning, recruitment, training & mentoring of the systems engineering team to fulfill resource needs of the organization

•Interface with the conversion engineering manager/director & other functional teams within the engineering department in supporting New Product Development, R&T and Bid & Proposal projects

•Develop strong customer relationships to support gaining market credibility & route-to-market

•In collaboration with the conversion engineering manager/director, identify technology gaps & maintain the technology roadmap that will deliver differentiated product characteristics & new technologies

•Collaborate with engineering/technical leadership to provide technical oversight and design assurance of all conversion engineering activities to ensure high quality of engineering

•Maintains familiarity with engineering tools and monitors trends in developing technology to anticipate future resource needs

•Work effectively with other functional groups (mechanical engineering, programs, test lab, supply chain, business development, quality, etc.) to successfully achieve program milestones and other division goals

•Evaluates performance of individuals for their quality of work and effectiveness in accomplishing assignments and implements corrective actions when necessary

•Originate specifications for new or modified (from existing) electrical power systems to support customer, manufacturing, regulatory, industry standard, and market requirements

•Interpret engineering analysis, test data, simulations, etc. to both develop and inform system level requirements for the electrical system

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Continued

•Manage and serve as the technical chair for the electrical system's problem reporting database

•Participate in and lead multi-discipline design reviews both internally with peers and externally with customers

•Review and approve documentation, test procedures, etc. to define and validate designed products as required

•Assist in system/product troubleshooting and lab testing as required

•Evaluate design changes for impact to product design, cost, and schedule

•Provide technical support to internal departments, suppliers, and customers as related to the system

•Adheres to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture

Supervisory Responsibilities

•Budget responsibility for team

•Bi-annual appraisal of the team members

•Manages a team of approximately 3-6 engineers

Physical Demands

May require long periods of sitting.

•May require lifting less than 20 lbs.

•May require prolonged repetitive use of upper extremities.

Work Environment

Typical office environment requiring the use of typical office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.) Computer keyboarding, computer monitor and mouse use including reaching forward, grasping, finger and wrist manipulation and neck bending and turning; near vision is necessary for computer monitor use.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

•Minimum of bachelor's degree in electrical or software/computer engineering or equivalent

•A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in systems or electrical design in a regulated industry

•Management aptitude in a new product design and manufacturing environment involving control and communications in an embedded software environment

•Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. “Green Card Holder”), Political Asylee or Refugee.

Knowledge/Skills

•Demonstrated high level of ability, leadership, motivation and aptitude

•Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with individuals/teams at all levels within the organization and with customers

•Knowledge of various aspects of electrical and software engineering disciplines

•Experience with systems engineering involving multi-discipline design teams and products in a regulated environment

•Experience with ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178C, and/or other regulated processes as related to electronic equipment for use in an aerospace environment

•Ability to provide clear direction and delegation

•Strong project management and organizational skills

•Strong communication and team-building skills

•Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

•Demonstrated analytical problem-solving acumen

•Solid technical judgement

Preferred Skills:

•MSEE/MSCE and/or MBA

•Previous engineering management experience
