Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Description
The candidate for this role will need to be somewhat of a "jack of all trades". This candidate will support the maintenance team as a heavy equipment technician. They will be responsible for repairing and working on heavy equipment such as CAT, Deer, MAC, as well as company-specific equipment. They will need to have experience and be comfortable working on any type of heavy equipment that comes in. The primary focus is to utilize their mechanical knowledge to support fleet maintenance operations needed to keep equipment rental-ready.
Responsibilities
Work on equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tractors, mini excavators, dozers, trucks, compact track loaders.
Diagnose and troubleshoot various systems such as hydraulic systems, combustion engines, motors, and electrical systems.
Perform preventative maintenance on all owned fleet at the branch.
Operate and test equipment to ensure it meets quality and efficiency standards.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet equipment and trucks with minimal supervision.
Diagnose internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
Perform major repairs using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments with minimal supervision.
Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and assorted services.
Utilize warranty repair timeframes to save and mark parts, correct parts and labor on work orders, or contact vendors when necessary.
Enter work orders and complete part ordering via fleet management system.
Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment.
Diagnose problem areas for any significant wear or tear on equipment.
Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner.
Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs.
Assist in training “C” Mechanics while taking direction from the shop lead.
Follow all company field procedures and protocols.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
Experience with diesel engines, troubleshooting, and heavy equipment.
Knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical systems, and electrical systems.
Ability to perform preventative maintenance.
Skill in disassembling and reassembling engines and motors as needed.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to use tools.
Experience as a diesel technician and diesel diagnosis.
Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels.
Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps, and assorted tools and equipment.
Computer skills for entering information into systems.
Effective and efficient communication skills.
Ability to drive/operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment.
Attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of time management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with troubleshooting electrical issues.
Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting various heavy equipment systems.
Ability to work as a team and be flexible with job assignments.
2 years of experience in heavy equipment repair.
Ownership of a sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services.
Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment
The work environment includes a non-climate controlled shop and outdoor settings. Candidates will have the opportunity to walk the shop and take a tour during the interview to get a feel for the work environment. The dress code includes provided company uniforms.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tupelo, Mississippi.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $36.00/hr.
