The University of Tennessee Space Institute Facilities Department in Tullahoma, Tennessee is seeking a Maintenance Specialist IV (Facilities Services Trades Specialist 4, MR 08). This is a full-time regular staff non-exempt hourly paid position. Compensation for the position will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position Summary: Install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480 volts, plumbing, HVAC/R, boilers, and carpentry. Maintain smooth operations of buildings, equipment and machinery on campus. Install new electrical systems on campus as needed for research projects. Work from specifications and drawings to maintain equipment. Proper safe use of equipment such as, but not limited to, electrical multimeter, pipe threading equipment, HVAC recovery systems, as well as forklift, aerial boom lifts, etc. Position is responsible for assigning work orders when the Maintenance Supervisor is absent. Position must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance in order to work in secured facilities. Performs other related duties as required. Job Function/Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul all types of equipment and machinery, such as air conditioning and refrigeration (chillers), electrical systems up to 480 volts, maintain energy management system, all valves and pumps, cooling towers, heating systems (boilers/electrical), and pneumatic systems. Install new electrical systems on campus for power sources needed for research projects. Replaces high voltage fuses in 25,000 volt substation to all building pad mount transformers.
  • In the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor assigns work orders.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on campus systems, such as equipment and machinery, HVAC/R, electrical systems, and energy management.
  • Use energy management system to help maintain appropriate air flow to campus.
  • Work from specifications and drawings to order replacement parts for all types of equipment.
  • Provide layout and complete project installations.
  • Perform advanced plumbing including installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Perform carpentry projects such as constructing walls, drywall, painting, and hanging doors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Specialized knowledge of electrical troubleshooting on control diagrams and schematics, plumbing, pipe threading, HVAC/R, and carpentry.

Knowledge of energy maintenance systems.

Possess organizational, management, analytical, and technical skills.

Ability to understand and apply regulations (OSHA, EPS, NFPA, DOT, etc.) to the university setting.

Ability to inspect/survey workplaces, products, maintenance and other related systems for compliance with established safety policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to adjust to changing work situations and environment.

Ability to prioritize work requirements.

Ability to work independently or as a member of the team in order to achieve result with accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and diplomacy in the execution of duties.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
