Job Summary:

As the Tucson facility’s Plant Quality Manager, you will be responsible for leadership and management of the internal-quality and customer-quality functions. This will specifically include leading and managing actions to monitor, evaluate and improve internal production processes, sustaining the quality philosophy and lead culture at a plant level, establishing, maintaining and optimizing the plant quality management system, continuously improving the plant quality plan to achieve the overall quality objectives. The ultimate goal of each of these responsibilities is to continuously drive the plant culture and performance to Zero Defects through the implementation of ISO9001, and through use of problem-solving tools, prevention methods, kaizen, and other continual improvement techniques.

Supervision and Interaction:

In this role, you will report directly to the Division Quality Manager, and will act as management’s representative for internal and customer quality within the Tucson, Arizona facility. This responsibility will include direct supervision of a Senior Quality Engineer, as well as coordination of resources within Quality and other departments to maintain effective implementation of the quality management system, rapidly problem solve and address quality concerns, and cost-effectively facilitate manufacturing process that produce high-quality products. You will also interact routinely with all functional areas, as well as with customers, field sales, regulatory agencies, and division management.

Job Duties:

  • Lead and manage the ATR process for customer-returned goods and ensure timely completion of all necessary actions and required reports.

  • Manage the cross-functional CAR process for corrective actions by assigning personnel relevant to the quality concern to teams and mentoring them through the problem-solving process. Continually adjust priorities within this process to ensure timely completion of critical CARs & 8Ds.

  • Effectively manage customer quality escapes by immediately driving cross-functional focus to alert, contain, and implement corrective actions.

  • Expediently and effectively communicate with customers on quality concerns, 8Ds, escapes, containments, and escalations.

  • Be an outspoken advocate for Zero Accidents, Zero Defects, as well as other lean and quality principles within the facility and drive continuous improvement.

  • Maintain and improve the processes within the Quality Management System that ensure production quality (corrective actions, non-conforming material, auditing, training, etc.).

  • Work with the leadership team to ensure that individuals performing functions affecting quality are trained and demonstrate the appropriate skills and performance results.

  • Implements the performance measurements necessary to effectively evaluate organizational performance and trends in product quality, services, customer satisfaction and the cost of poor quality. Uses the results of performance evaluation to target improvement efforts.

  • Track and report key quality-related performance indicators such as first pass yield, scrap, cost-of-poor-quality, etc.

  • Continually identify, develop, and implement additional sources of quality data.

  • Regularly inform production personnel of quality issues, and mentor them through problem solving to identify and eliminate root causes.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline, required.

  • Minimum requirements plus Master’s Degree in related discipline, preferred.

  • 8-10+ years experience in Quality, Engineering, or other related field.

  • 3-5+ years working in a manufacturing facility.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Quality systems, programs, audits, and procedures.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools and ability to manage improvement projects utilizing the tools.

    Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent analytical abilities and comprehensive understanding of Quality tools (8D, FMEA, Control Plans, etc.).

  • Expert-level analytical, root cause analysis and problem solving skills.

  • Hand-on experience working directly with production personnel to solve quality problems, and demonstrated ability in utilizing root cause analysis tools to solve.

  • Proven experience leading functional and cross-functional teams on projects, with demonstrated success in achieving the project goals.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO9001 (or related) auditing, management, and maintenance. Lead or Internal Auditor Certification preferred.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand complex part drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to concisely explain complex issues supported with data.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Experience with key manufacturing processes including assembly and machining, and the required techniques to manage quality performance.

  • Open-minded self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, confirming and adjusting priorities as necessary to ensure timely completion.
