A vacancy exists for the position of Equipment Serviceman B in Welding & Fab Shop. Please see the attached job in the Fabrication/Welding department. Please see the description and outline for position specific details listed below.

Normal Minimum Requirements :

  • Must possess a High School diploma, or GED equivalent.

  • Must have experience and ability to demonstrate proper mechanical skills and use of hand tools

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience and demonstrate proficiency in mig welding

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience and demonstrate proficiency in oxy-fuel/plasma cutting.

  • Ability to operate a variety of welding equipment (mig, stick, tig)

  • Ability to physically bend, stoop, lift and climb for extended periods of time

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing

  • Ability to obtain and retain a DOT medical card

  • Certifications in mig & stick welding preferred. Will be required to obtain all necessary welding certifications

  • Must have basic computer skills

  • All training must be completed, and welding certifications obtained prior qualifying for Serviceman “A” position. Time spent as a Serviceman “B” will be no less than one year with a maximum of two years to complete.

There will be a three-part testing procedure required for this position. The first step is a written exam followed by a practical assessment and a behavioral based interview. Each step of the process must be passed in order to progress to the next step.

We are providing a study outline to prepare for the three-part testing procedure. The outline is designed to maximize test results by centralizing study times in the areas listed below:

Technical Skills Outline

Knowledge of the following:

  • Cutting

  • Welding

  • Basic Math

  • Metal Fabrication (mig, tig, aluminum and stick)

Practical Assessment Outline

Knowledge of the following:

  • Oxy-Fuel cutting

  • Torch Valves and Regulators

  • Hand Grinder

  • Mig Welder

Behavioral Based Interview

The interview is a behavioral-based interview. In this process, we believe past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior, and behavior that is more recent is a better predictor of future behavior than older behavior, and long-standing trends are better predictors of behavior than isolated incidents. We therefore have patterned the questions during the interview to solicit behavior patterns that indicate with higher predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required. This type of interview is different from those you have taken in the past.

Position Description:

This job classification provides welding, fabrication, vehicle and equipment modification services to all departments under UNS.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  • Perform fabrication and welding processes and have the ability to perform mechanical tasks

  • Perform non-certified mig and stick welding

  • Perform oxy-fuel cutting

  • Knowledge of fabrication equipment (iron worker, metal sheers, press brakes, grinders, etc.)

  • Maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs, and the Company to the level of their knowledge, training and experience

  • Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures

  • Progression to each step is only after successfully passing a proficiency examination in each step. This employee will be required to pass all written and practical tests

  • All training must be completed and welding certifications obtained prior qualifying for the Serviceman “A” position. Time spent as a Serviceman “B” will be no less than one year

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to perform shop duties such as painting, grinding, drilling, straightening, cutting, and non-certified welding necessary to shop fabrications, repairs, and all related functions

  • Ability tobend, stoop, lift and climb for extended periods of time

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to read engineering fabrication drawings (preferred)

  • Effective verbal and written communication

Pay Rate: 42.89
